I'm not sure how I'd feel if Governor Gregoire started appearing in magazines doing interviews about subjects other than, you know, HER JOB.

Also, why not just wear red, white and blue? We're a smart enough nation to understand what that particular color combination means.

As a runner, I see nothing wrong with what Palin is wearing, in high school they made us run in spandex tank tops and bikini bottoms (YUP). Also, if there is something wrong with the flag situation (which I don't think there is) then I feel like you gotta blame the photographer on that one more so than her.

@ThatsJustLovely12: According to her party, the way she's posing with it is a sign of disrespect. The Senate has like 17 pages on how to treat the flag. As a head of state and someone who wanted to be VP, she should know. She's not blind, she saw it there. She should absolutely have known better.

@blueberrypancake: That's the point. No one here really cares about the flag, what they care about is the hypocrisy of it. That she and her party act like their god's gift to America and therefore the only true Americans and then they blatantly disregard the same rules they chastise the opposition for. A lot can be said for the consistency the Republican party is severely lacking in these days.

and as for the flag business, i think it's just another example of her laziness and inattention towards her image. sarah palin still hasn't figured out how to deal with the scrutiny she faces gracefully.

@EkaterinaBallerina: I think the hypocrisy is gross (but also totally unsurprising) but a LOT of people on here are saying how they believe that the flag is sacred and it needs to be respected per the Senate guidelines. I'm a little shocked to be honest, to see so many people parrot back Senate book guidelines like they're federal law and should be respected. A lot of free thinking people have gone to prison under the banner of being allowed to treat the American flag however they want.

@bluewine: Oh I agree -- some Conservative Palin lovers would totally lose their minds if Hillary Clinton did that. But I think that'd be fake-ass rabblerousing, not genuine concern.

I'd think it was wrong if she were stepping on the flag or dragging it on the floor, but leaning up against it? I just can't care. And I think people who do care, whether it's a Dem or a Republican, are probably just making shit up as a show of partisan "outrage".

With that said, I'm not so sure about the 'fake-ass rabblerousing' thing, though...there were quite a few Republicans who seemed genuinely concerned that Obama didn't wear a flag pin, didn't salute the flag (which was untrue), and didn't have the flag on his plane (which was untrue).

I don't think the blame for the flag issue rests on Palin alone. Who styled this shoot? Does she really have that flag lying around like that in her kitchen/office? She should have known better, but at the same time, someone at the magazine should have known better.

This only bothers me in the context of her and her party's general hypocrisy. I'm not much of a flag waver myself but if I have to spend 8 years being glad a traitor and a terrorist because of such, then I expected by dissenters to not do the same. It's similar to the crap Obama got for not wearing a flag pin during the election when McCain was not once seen wearing one himself.

Honestly I'm just disgusted with their hypocrisy at this point. If Sarah Palin wants us to believe she's "true American" then she better fucking be respecting the decorum of the flag.
