Condi Rice shops at Nordstrom (at Pentagon) and it would be great to see Michelle in there on occasion, too. They have a good kids department. And they can outfit Mrs. Robinson (who looked great the other night.)

@ShanaElmsford: I love Isabel Toledo. I'm sorry she's never had big commercial success, but she'd be a great designer for Michelle.

I hope Michelle will be very careful in taking Vogue's advice. ALT gave Jennifer Hudson some real duds, and I don't think they did much to help Hillary, either. Hillary had to find her own niche with the pant suits.

Yeah, well, I thought the sleeves of Barack's suit jacket were 1 mm too long. Fashion fail!

(Sorry, I just hate that women are subjected to all this analysis of how the dress sucks, or the dress is good but it fits them wrong, or makes their butt look bigger than it is, or whatever. Guys have it SO EASY, and it bugs the hell out of me.)

I could sing the praises of zappos customer service from the rooftops. They upgrade every freaking order to 2 dayn shipping when the regular shipping was free anyways! Who does that?! And their selection of shoes and bags is so huge I always find what I'm looking for. They are fabo.

Okay, I must admit to hating that dress on Michelle, but in the moment I was so awed I let it slide. Then when I saw Andre Leon Tally in the audience I thought humm is this his doing?? I have always loved her clothing, I am giving her this one fashion pass!! I am sure that at the inauguration she will be utterly flawless. Don't doubt that!!

Michelle is a total fox. I go back and forth between loving the dress and thinking she pulled of a difficult look, and kind of wondering what's going on with it. I'm so confused, but it doesn't make me love her less.

Also, I love, love, love Zappos. I order stuff from them even when I can find it a little cheaper elsewhere because I like to support a business that treats both its customers and employees well.

My first knee-jerk reaction was, "Wow, hmm, not sure that works" and then it grew on me due to her general stunningness and adorable coordination with the rest of the fam. Not to mention that as I think someone else pointed out, she could pretty much rock a paper bag.

I really loved the dress. Sure, throwing a sweater on it killed a little bit of the look for for pete's sake it was chicago. I think she looks great and I wouldn't mind having that dress myself! I'm embarassed to admit I already ordered her jcrew sweater and blouse. What a goof ball I know.

@Buenavista: You're not a goof - if I could afford jcrew I'd have ordered it too. That said, I must correct the impression that it is necessarily cold in Chicago in November. Fall in the midwest can be anything from 30s to 70s, and it was pretty warm the last few days.

My mother (yes, a white Republican) said "The dress... Why? And why did they all dress in black and RED?"

I think she was somehow alluding to Marxism and Communism there, but I'm really not sure. I mumbled something along the lines of "yeah, not a great dress."

I am 38, have three children (two of which will be able to vote in the next election), a husband, house, dog (and cat and parrot) and damned-near a picket fence.

My mother can still reduce me to mumbling and getting the hell out of Dodge when involved in political discourse. So no, it actually might not get better as you get older.

It was probably very cute in person. On TV, at night, it reflected light from all the wrong body parts and made her look a little lumpy.

That said, I love that the whole family had heavy matching in their clothing choices.

@gringuitico: it was stunning on the runway, but the model wore it without the shrug. Michelle could have carried it off sleeveless.

However, my trainer said it would have been great for Michelle to have been in royal blue or even midnight blue to match her husband.
