O RLY? Well, I'm not yet middle-age but I'll tell you something for nothing. I like SERIOUS books. Not the name-dropping sex-and-shoe-and-failed-relationships-boo-hoo girly books. No, I'd pick anything by Margaret Atwood for my desert island, TYVM. Or maybe Stephen King. His short-story collections are awesome. Bloody, gross, and awesome. So there.

Ooop! Time to go ogle the shirtless roofers next door and daydream about having babies with them! BRB!

This actually explains a lot about middle aged women.

Why do they have so many cats? 'Cause they want to be surrounded by pussies! Why do they enjoy chocolate? It's an aphrodisiac, duh. And I think the appeal of Lifetime is self-explanatory.

Top 10 books women would take to a desert island, according to the survey:

1 Bridget Jones's Diary - Helen Fielding (20 per cent)

@doodley is not amused: The game is desert island books, not guilty pleasure books. Desert island books are the books you are going to read for the rest of your life. Forever! Unforgivable. (This message has been brought to you by Jim Halpert)

    The Prophet (Gibran)

    The Blue Sword (McKinley)

    Heidi

The Wolf and the Dove (Woodiwiss)

    . . .

I give up. I'm having trouble culling 20 books from my stacks. How could I choose just 10?

@my cousin is an ape: I think I would cheat and add a lot of the complete works for my desert island books.

    Definitely:

    Complete works of Shakespeare

    Complete works of Jane Austen

    Borges Collected Fictiones

    Plato's Complete Works

    Aristotle's Complete Works

@KiddyKat: Yes, cliche makes it sound like such a bad thing! Romance is the biggest market in books - hot sex, feisty heroines (most of the time) and happy endings. The world could use more of that.

    Middle-aged women?

Are they using, like, moddles' middle age, for their demographic demo-ey demos?

Or are they just terrified of what they'll find if they start polling teenagers?

In other wimmin studies, scmienticians have discovered a new, terrible body part called "the clitoris" which causes wimmin to enjoy "the sex act". Local scmienticians are scratching their heads and re-doubling their efforts to study the elusive and frightening "wimmins".

Speaking as a middle aged woman, I rarely seek books which have steamy sex scene in, as I prefer biographies and factual books. Occasionally exotic sex does appear in my literature as hitorical biographies like to portray the sexual mores of the period. and I am fascinated by the lives of courtesans from previous centuries.
