HA! Withdrawal?! The show was on SUNDAY night! You're not supposed to start januaryjonesing until next MONDAY!
I am SO gonna miss wrecking all the surprises for myself by reading the posts on Monday before I watch the TiVoed version - I can NEVER stay awake passed 10 anymore. #rogersterling
I agree 100% with this. My dad was a lawyer for 35 years and absolutely hated the last 15. He was always grumpy, never liked to do things with the family, and was, in general, a real prick. Now that he's retired he's MUCH more laid back and actually fun to be around.
Only one problem. That last 15 years he hated being a lawyer? That was my childhood. Thanks for that, legal profession. #rogersterling
Glad you posted this! I know its not directly relevent, but I have some new plot ideas that I thought of after the recap post:
Don's new company does the publicity/advertising for Henry Francis' boss' 1964 re-election campaign! I think it was NY Governor Rockafeller.
The original Sterling Cooper will shut down. When Don fired Sal, he said that losing Lucky Strikes will close them down. Well, they lost Lucky Strikes.
@Island of Misfit Toys: They're being absorbed. Basically all that means is that McCann-Erikson bought their accounts, and can choose to fire or keep the people working at S-C if they want to. They won't go under, but McCann-Erikson just won't have as many accounts as they thought they'd get. #rogersterling
For what its worth, Cooper's explanation of retirement is much more accurate to my grandfather's experience than the one pictured above. Not about the dying yet (Thank God), but the swift deline of abilities post-retirement? Totally. #rogersterling
@CherriSpryte: When my dad retired, he went around fixing things that weren't broken, breaking them in the process, so he would have to fix them. He broke my watch and ruined one of my rings when he tried to hammer it back into round. But he was happy.
He went back to work part-time, though, and then he died. #rogersterling
@girlleastlikelyto: Its definitely a "your mileage may vary" sort of thing. My grandfather also didn't retire til he was 78 - I think if he'd retired earlier, he'd've developed hobbies and things (even breaking and repairing things), rather than "sitting and watching Fox news on super-high volume on a gigantic flatscreen TV", which is pretty much what he does most days. #rogersterling
@Zombie Ms. Skittles: Big Love in early 2010! So, just get through the holidays, and then you can trade '60s smooth one-liners for prairie chic poly-drama. #rogersterling
@anya629: @dreamypisces: @Kajj: Trying to be servicey, since I thought it was a good question.
IMDB is a great resource (Casts and crews, synopses, instant links to related material and projects and movie quotes) and yet I am amazed at how many are not familiar.
In spite of my deep love for Roger Stirling, part of me will always see him as the city comptroller who smokes one cigarette a week and enjoys a golden shower. Ahh, nostalgia! #johnslattery
@rodmanstreet: Nine months on Jezebel, 146 followers, and I got starred on a comment featuring the phrase "golden shower"? Hortense, you saucy minx, don't try to tell me that was a coincidence! ;) #johnslattery
The confrontation scene with Don crying reminded me of when I confronted my ex about his cheating. I wish I had been as strong as Betty and stayed focused and angry. I dissolved and felt like I let him get away with it (even though I kicked him out of the house a week later). I am still angry two years later and am seeking help for my rage, disappointment and loss. I hate that he had that woman in the car. I'd like to think that he will not do it again..but I doubt it. Damn you Don Draper. You make me feel so weak. But it is YOU who are the weak one. This seemed like the first time he actually felt the hurt he caused others and himself. And for that I am grateful. Nice to see him act human. #madmenrecap
I don't know if anyone is still reading this thread, but I hope some Mad Men expert can help me out. Also, I'd like to apologize in advance because this question isn't about the current episode.
So we were catching up on MM this weekend, and during the episode when Pete rapes the au pair, my mom said, "That's the second girl he's raped."
I said, "Second? Who else has he raped?" She said Peggy. I haven't seen the first season since it originally aired, but I feel pretty sure that Pete and Peggy had consensual sex. My mom says, "She had no idea what was happening!" I don't think Peggy was a virgin.
Am I totally wrong here? My mom and I have argued about this twice now and it's driving me crazy. (I mean, for god's sake--we're arguing about a TV show!) #madmenrecap
@sisipie: He didn't rape her. He was an asshole, but he didn't rape her. I don't think she was a virgin, either. She got birth control before she had sex with Pete, and I think she was aware of sex and knew enough about it to feel comfortable getting BC. #madmenrecap
@Cimorene: She got the BC after the incident in the office with Pete, just before he married. I think she thought it would be a repeat thing, then he rebuffed her at the bar when she danced toward him, remember? That incident was when she got pregnant. #madmenrecap
