In doing this, you (the cover-er) are the one making women all about sex. *You* are fetishizing them. In shouting to the heavens: "No sex to see here!", you are focusing people's attention on women's sexuality.

Women's bodies as a vehicle for men's power. It takes all kinds of forms, and I do feel very blessed to be raising my son and daughter in a place where we've managed to reach a point where the conversation is about the more subtle aspects of the struggle, getting to the roots of it (because ultimately, as you say, the guitar playing isn't the issue), but I hate that we're all still dealing with this shit. (I know, I'm a real rarity on that point, aren't I?)

Besides sexuality its also about control, which I'm sure you know. It gets ridiculous too. I remember growing up and all the women cooking pickles and preparing various food dishes for some festival when there'd be whispers about "Nooooo, X you don't handle that" (because you're bleeding and the food will be RUINED, oh noes!). I mean, for fuck's sake, really, menstruation freaks you out so much that you'd rather starve, 'cos obviously you're not gonna get up off your arse and cook it yourself.
