    Another important point (for me anyway) that I saw in an article today from either The Express (by the Washington Post) or The Examiner (not sure who makes that one) was that he also opposed the availability of birth control to unmarried couples.

    Can anybody debunk or confirm this? Because if this is true I have a severe problem as it goes against the basic fundamentals of my beliefs.

    When a politician is trumpeting "LOOK! I hire women!" I have a hard time believing they are going to look out for my interests. The only way to get my vote is a solid voting record and history of policy goals that I can agree with.

    Tim Kaine's wonky eyebrow for the win! I so fervently wish governors in Virginia weren't limited to one term. He was awesome. Although as an ex-Virginian I'm pleased to know he's still working on the side of the angels, fighting asshats like Bob McDonnell.

    For those who do live in Virginia, as I do, know that McDonnell is also vehemently against any and all abortion rights, even in the case of incest or rape. He's a scary, scary man and will take Virginia back two steps for every one our usually conservative state takes forward.

    Don't let McDonnell off the hook - he's a hypocrite of the highest order.

    @curiousgeorgiana: Me, too. He is lying through his teeth; his record proves it. And even though I know some of you disagree with it, Deeds wrote Megan's Law, which in my opinion, does have value. He is also for energy conservation and exploring new means of energy, such as those lovely windmills.

    No candidate is perfect, let's be honest, but at least Deeds is not a lying mysoginist who voted against equal pay for women. Like McDonnell.

    part of his defense is that he was just a graduate student and he was young. he was 34. he wasn't just a kid figuring out who he was and where he stands on issues. at 34 you know who you are and have enough life experience to back up whatever personal beliefs you hold.

    Oh, wow, thanks for the voices of support, colluders! Let's pretend I am a woman voter in VA. Basically all McDonnell is telling me here is that he thinks that I am SO STUPID that I will be unable to tell his position from his, oh, voting record and stated, laid out position from some nice stuff ladies say about him. Duuuuuh, OK.

    And for all the women who worked with and for him? Just so you know, you're not special, he thinks you should be paid less too.

    @Beets.Go.On is the Fat Yogini: Oooh goodness. It's a sort of uber-marriage, in which the couple getting married has to jump hoops to get married (counseling, etc.) and be severely limited in their ability to get a divorce. In most cases, grounds for divorce include only physical violence and adultery. Right now, only three states (all in the South) have covenant marriage.

    @Beets.Go.On is the Fat Yogini: Covenant marriages do not exist in many states, LA is the only one that comes to mind right now. It's an option, not a requirement. It's a stricter legal condition for marriage. The couple has to get premarital counseling, and may have to get counseling before filing for divorce. Also, they can only divorce for cause- adultery, abuse, abandonment, etc. I imagine it would work for some couples, but those folks would also be having their needs met through less stringent marriage and divorce laws too.

    @puglove: That's how I feel. Kaine has fucked up a lot of the budget (especially health/mental health, in which I work), and I'm not sure I love the idea of anyone he endorses so strongly, but I would never vote for McDonnell.
