Meeting Francesca Lia Block is definitely one of the highlights of my life. So, fuck you Robert C. Braun.

The thought of someone looking at this book, the book that touched me so deeply and so perfectly, and wanting to destroy it out of hate, makes me feel like they want to destroy ME out of hate. That what they're saying is, they need hefty monetary compensation for the unbearable pain of having to see ME existing in the same world their impressionable children do.
This book is there to heal and to help, and destroying it so violently is a deliberate attempt to HURT those people the book is designed to heal. This goes beyond getting rid of something you don't like, and into wanting to rip something away from the people who need it, the PEOPLE you hate.
I'm seeing red, motherfuckers.

This is a beautiful book that really opened my mind as a sheltered small-town teen.
"You've Got to Be Carefully Taught" from South Pacific is running through my head right now...

Not harmful at all - in fact, Im pretty sure her books helped get this punk rock chick through her miserable high-school days.
If anything, we need MORE of her books around.

I am beginning to truly understand what Toni Morrison meant when she said religion teaches us that knowledge is bad.@<

What about things that are "anti-Moslem", "anti-Jewish", and "anti-Hindu"?
If you want to talk about things being "anti-Christian", how about talking about the prejudice that stems from having a different religion.
...tolerance, my ass.

being from milwaukee, this particularly embrasses me. most people there are liberal and even keeled in a way i have missed since moving to the south, so this is kind of shocking to me.

"Where they burn books, they will also burn humans in the end"
A quotation from Bebelplatz in Berlin, which these people should probably visit for an education.

@SomeAuthorGirl: Yep, sadly. They'd probably say the communists did it too.

It's a book. If you don't like it, don't look at it. It didn't come over to your house, egg your car, TP your lawn, and kick your petunias. It's just a book, that people can choose to read if they like. Or not, if they prefer.
If your faith in your beliefs is so weak and so tenuous that you actually have to run out and destroy stuff that might make people think of stuff other than the way YOU think, then you're WEAK. Yes, you are weak. Because if your convictions and if your faith were really so strong, you wouldn't feel so horribly threatened by something that runs counter to your beliefs. How dare some printed words on a page disagree with you! Why, the only sensible option is to destroy the paper, right? So no one else of your faith will be poisoned by such horrible mean words?
You have every right to your faith. You can believe in whatever you like. You can have your own opinions and beliefs. Feel free; it's your right. I won't stop you from saying things, even if I disagree with you. Meanwhile, you might want to examine why you feel so threatened by a book that has the audacity to exist. If you think that other "believers" are so weak that their faith will be threatened by some words on a page, you might want to reconsider if your faith is worth believing in.
Stop burning shit. We all have the right to express an opinion, last I checked.
No love,
-Tscheese
