Farzana, I know that it seems very tough and unfair, but try to understand and help your Mum. Don't do anything silly like crossing the border and getting into trouble, she seems already burdened with many problems.
Isn't it pretty standard to not allow immigrants to work while in their paperwork clears? I am not sure how people seeking asylum are treated, but I know that legal spouses in both Canada and the US are not allowed to work anywhere from 6 months to over a year. #refugees
@thespaceygirl: I have no idea if there are more opportunities in the US but there are lots of opportunities to work illegally over here and (I imagine) in very similar roles - cleaning, factory work, catering. But basically the economy means that Brits will now take these jobs, or such jobs temporarily don't exist. Plus there is something of a crackdown on those who hire illegal workers currently. #refugees
@thePrototype: Asylum seekers are allowed to work in the US, in line with obligations under international law. Of course, they can't get any other benefits here like they do in the UK. Asylum seekers are legally present in their countries of refuge unless and until they are given a final rejection on their case. #employment
@thePrototype: I also am not sure what you mean by "legal spouses." People who are entering the US on a spouse visa are allowed to work from day one, or as soon as their applications are received. #employment
@J.D.Regent: If you come across on a K1 Visa you are allowed to work until you actually get married, at which point your status changes. Then you are not allowed to work until you receive your AOS or Permanent Residence which took us about 6 months to receive (which I understand is quick). #employment
I'm getting really, really sick of Dina Lohan's excusing Lindsay's reckless behavior with an obligatory mention of her age. She's just 18! She's just 19! She's just 22! Look, youth is hard. But if you see multiple rehab visits, obvious (even to the outside) codependency issues, and work problems resulting from unreliability, you can't just paint over it with the "She's young and just figuring things out" brush. She is an adult now, and her mom's attitude isn't helping her to take ownership of her life and responsibility for her actions.
Re: remakes of EVERYTHING ... I'm convinced that Flashdance is going to be remade pretty soon, if only because FAME and Footloose already are. They're the three big 80s teen dance movies for me.
So I guess we don't need to watch the season premiere of Grey's Anatomy since we now know that TR Knight got let out of his contract and Katherine Heigl is staying?
Seeing those pictures of Guy Ritchie attending the same bash as Sienna Miller and Patrick Kielty, reminds me of why I find him so irritating. Despite having a mother who is an aristocrat and growing up in a vast mansion surrounded by hundreds of acres of land, he affects a working class accent and tries to pretend he is just a working class geezer in his shell suit top and jeans. However he made sure he got Madonna's mansion and country estate in the divorce so he can revert back to being the upper class toff he really is when the cameras aren't on him.
I don't think the Britney item is that big of a deal. She is probably in a different city everyday, and just lost track of where she was. She wouldn't be the first singer to do so. I believe many acts will have their current city written on their set lists.
I watched Angelina on 360 last night because I generally avoid her but she does seem to do good things around the world for refugees and I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt but I had to turn it off halfway through the interview. I couldn't get past thinking that she was just acting her way through it. She cried on cue and seemed to ramble through most of her answers. I don't know. It just seemed contrived and she wasn't as engaging as I thought she would be in an interview. Now Richard Simmons, who came on after her and danced to Lady GaGa while yelling "LADY GAGA!!! DANCE, ANDERSON!!" was FAR more engaging a guest.
OK I live in NYC but I really want to go see Bob Odenkirk and David Cross in Chicago. I looked on Ticketmaster and didn't see any information. Does anyone out there in Jezebel-Land have any information regarding this? PLEASE let me know, I love them. So much.

Keep strong, things will get better for you two.
I wish I could say that to them. #refugees

An actress starving herself? Well at least it'll be for a good cause. I'm sure there are plenty of people who would pay them to eat however.
