Ashley Olsen looks like she is wearing a Snuggie! I hope this trend filters down to the masses, because there are so many days I'd love to wear mine in public.
Sidibe looks like a pumpkin in that thing! I think it's tremendously unflattering to her and not to say so to her personally before she wore it at an event is almost cruel. It could work in a different color maybe but there are few women of any size who look good in Empire waists.
Valleta's dress is beautiful and flattering, but UGH! those shoes should be thrown into the Urban Fjord with great force.
Chloe Sevigny's dress is beautiful, but her hair looks like she put it up to shower and forgot to take it down and get it done afterwards. I don't like the casual hair with the fancy duds trend at all.
Can I just say that I am loving all of these dresses with sleeves? And Gabby is my favourite of the lot; that colour is stunning on her and she looks radiant!
@LadyFabulous: See, I really didn't like that color on her-- or maybe it was just that she did the orange blush with it and it was too much maybe? I liked her so much better in the dress from the Tim Burton MOMA tribute...I just loved the blue-y purple-y shimmering on her.
I think Chloe Sevigny's dress is not only the best of 2009, but it could possibly the best dress that has ever existed in the history of dresses. I'd take it over Marie Antoinette's gowns (too stuffy) or over the Princess CiCi's flowing dresses. It even beats Belle's yellow dress from Beauty and the Beast, and when I was little I was convinced I was going to grow up and wear that exact dress EVERY DAY.
What I really need is one of these in every color, with different kinds of flowers. I will wear it to run errands. I can pair it with a blazer to wear to work, or wear my dri-fit Mizrahi Resort gown to the gym.
Thandie Newton's dress is one of my all-time favorites.
Am I the only one who didn't like Natalie Portman's Oscar dress? I usually like both her style and Rodarte, but the combo somehow came out wrong in my mind.
@Penny: It also gave me a weird Barbie vibe, probably just because of the color. Except instead of Malibu Barbie it was like Harvard Star Wars* Barbie.
*Would that make Hayden Christensen a Ken Doll? He's pretty enough for it.
Well, I didn't know Sparkle Nation required a commitment. I'd like to take my citizenship on a month-to-month basis, please. I just don't know that I'm ready for this kind of lifetime glitter.
@rodmanstreet:
I woke up from the night -- what a sight!
A blight of glitter sparkled with light. I mumbled and stumbled and said, "What the hell!
Did I wake in the bright land of Jezebel?"
I still really hate Olivia Wilde's Golden Globes dress and Natalie Portman's NYC Ballet dress. The former looks like something I wore as a dance costume as a tot, and the latter fits terribly.
I do, however, adore Liv Tyler's dress (but really, the woman can wear anything) and Chloe Sevigny's Emmy dress--so simple and fun!
@Tchotchke: I agree. Wilde's dress reminds me of something from a 70s/80s prom. It's vintage in a bad way. And there is nothing spectacular about Portman's night sky dress at all. It's not figure flattering whatsoever. She looks 12 in it.
