No, Kirk, atheists have no bible. We're not really all that organized, honestly.

And the reason many kids go to college and come out questioning things they always took for granted is because they went to college. They're exposed to new ideas. Usually the sort fundamentalist, dogmatic religions don't like. Because, you know, it's about asking questions and not taking things at face value. One of the fundamental issue with a lot of "faith" based belief is that it relies on things that are easily called into question with just a little history, context, and exploration.

This is not to say that I have any problem with people who believe in a god. I don't. I'm just tired of atheism being blamed for all the worlds ills. If religious people like Kirk "I don't live in Reality" Cameron didn't insist on views that are so incredibly limited, archaic, and thoughtless, we'd be better off.

ugh kirk cameron. you cannot make an 'educated decision' about god. the whole point of faith is that you believe in something that is not proven either way. and that's fine. believe what you want. but let people be EDUCATED at college because THAT IS WHAT IT IS THERE FOR!

@Asmo: If a Satanist was an atheist they would call themselves atheists not Satanists.
If you believe in Satan, you can't be an atheist, its pretty simple.
The basic tenants of Satanism acknowledge Satan, as an atheist I don't acknowledge any sort of "spiritual being" good or evil.
In my mind, its all B.S,

@veronykah: Not really. The Church of Satan respects Satan as a character (which, if you read Paradise Lost, how can you not?). But they are made up of atheists and agnostics who don't believe in him as a real being.

Of course, there are many different sects who call themselves Satanists, and some of them may actually believe in the Christian mythos.

However, as a "devout" atheist I tend to be on the side of the fence that doesn't want satanists associated with atheism.
We already have enough issues getting people to understand you can be a moral and upstanding citizen and not believe in god, without getting the added distinction of being in league with the anti-christs themselves (!) satanists!
There are also buddhists that only believe in the teachings of buddha and not him as a spiritual being too right?
I never hear them being called atheists.
I think that if you believe in a doctrine, you have a religion. Whether or not that involves a spiritual being or not.
As an atheist, I don't follow any doctrine.

It kinda makes me sad that Emma Thompson is identified as "Harry Potter actor, Emma Thompson" instead of "Academy Award winning writer and actor and all around awesome person who you totally want to be your best friend, Emma Thompson."

Also, she keeps her Oscars in the guest bathroom, so that you can pick them up and pretend to accept them while looking in the mirror, and not be embarrassed by having to ask. How awesome is that?

When I read about Holly getting her own show, I was actually pretty excited. I always found her to be very down to earth (I know, I know) and she seemed to genuinely care for Hef.

I saw her Peepshow in Vegas over the summer and it was awesome.

McKenzie Philips has had a long, tough road. And I am loathe to criticize whatever part of her healing process is being served by giving interview after interview that reads like eavesdropping on someone's therapy sessions. But it would be nice to read something about her that does not involve rape or exploitative sex with way older men. I really hope she has been able to make a life for herself that involves happier things.

Kirk Cameron, atheists don't have Bibles. That's kind of the point. And sorry that having an educated populace is making it difficult to get them to do your church's bidding. No wait, I'm actually not.

I'm having a hard time even coming up with an RIP for Susan Atkins.

Clive Owen, that is the same canned story you were telling the last time you had a movie to promote, and I still love hearing it.

@Hooplehead: What makes you think the sex she had with Mick was exploitive? She said she wanted him, so what is the problem? I hate that anytime a woman who has been abused has sex (with an older man) it is considered bad somehow, as if she will not be able to ever enjoy sex again until she receives extensive therapy.

@checkyaself: I'm going to go out on a limb and say there is a definite "ick" factor from him reportedly saying "I've been waiting for this since you were 10 years old". That's pretty problematic.
And she was 18, it wasn't as though she is talking about her sex-life now, after recovery and hopefully a tonne of therapy.

@SunburnedCounsel: Yes, that's what I was thinking. That quote was bizarre. Also, the way I heard the story, Mick locked her in the kitchen and they had sex while her dad was banging on the door. It grossed me out before I knew her dad was an abuser, it is disgusting to me now. She just doesn't seem to have had any male in her early life who was there for her in a non-skeevy way.

also, may I add that the above photo of Mr. Butler is the goofiest picture I've ever seen of him (or possibly anyone who is not Jerry Lewis) and it totally fascinates me, and not in a "oh he's so sexy" kind of way.
