I'm kind of upset I missed it, though in my PR experience, I don't really start watching until midway through the season when it starts to get really exciting.
On a slightly related note, I met a guy named Phil Jiminez last night who is a comic book artist for Marvel who happens to be best friends with Tim Gunn (so effing jealous!). Ergo, I believe I finally figured out the connection/reason why the Illustrious Gunn was immortalized in ink.
why was the all-star challenge so poorly promoted? i would have LOVED to have seen that, but never knew a thing about it until I tuned it for the premiere and caught the last few minutes! bad PR lifetime!!
I have a fairy god Tim Gunn. He appears on my shoulder every time I do something I shouldn't be doing, strokes his chin and goes: "I'm concerned. Tell me about what's happening here." It's kept me from doing a lot of dumb things. You don't want to disappoint Tim! Even figments of the imagination Tim Gunn!
Ari's "outfit" was CLEARLY inappropriate for the challenge and just kinda not great. But it was creative and interesting and I really would have liked to have seen what she would have brought in the future. There was so much "safe" and boring walking down that runway that I thought they made a BIG mistake sending her home first.
the lifetime commercials were the only thing about PR that I couldn't quite stomach. All of those lifetime dramas about raising teen girls and what not. Bleh.
@BabyJane: Oh wait, babyjane, I love Reba...which would confuse their advertisers so much because single black 30 somethings aren't supposed to be in the Reba demographic!
@bluebears: Talk about growth! She's come light-years away from her drapey giraffe-print Miami girl work. Her pieces last night were impeccable. The fit on that skirt!
@what a moniker!: the only issue I had was the huge ruffle on the front of the one dress. But the rest were beautiful. I have always thought she made the most wearable clothes out of all of them. Can we talk about Sweet Pea?
@bluebears: I think the judges were too focused on the growth of the designers since they had seen them last. SweetP and Chris who did so-so throughout their season showed real improvement and ended up top 4. Those judges really wanted to give Daniel the win in season 2, but his final collection was very eh. They had just seen Korto, she was doing kind of the same thing, and the judges were underwhelmed. I don't agree with it (I wanted Uli) but I get it.
@bluebears: Yes. We decided that the judges decided to "make it up" to Dan for losing the season where he should've won. Even though he made it looks like throwing a sequin bubble skirt on when you leave the gym is fashionable.
It reminds me of when people find deep meaning in a painting they don't understand--and the artist was all "actually, I just thought it looked cool."
@bluebears: SERIOUSLY! His was the first collection that when the model walked out I actually said aloud: YUCK. Uli's was the ONLY collection where I loved all the pieces. No one else had that distinction. And she wasn't even in the Top Four? Why? Because she's moved away from prints and gave them something new--like they were SUPPOSED TO? So Wrong.
@bluebears: I couldn't remember a single one of his pieces when they announced him as the winner. I REALLY thought that Korto should have won :( Also, I came into it late, but did they say anything about why Jeffery sebalia looks like that now? He looked sick.
@bluebears: Daniel's stuff came out and I yelled, "EW!" I really thought his was one of the worst collections.
I agree with other commenters that it should've been Uli in the top 4 rather than him. [And if Korto weren't being such a friggin' sourpuss and making snide remarks about Leanne (y'know, Korto, Leanne didn't vote herself the winner), I would fully have been Team Korto, but she and Sweet P and Chris and Uli all brought it big-time.]
I haven't seen any pro-Daniel comments anywhere yet, so this really seems crazy to me.
And Diane? That black dress? Wasn't that awesome. It was *nice* but... really, judges? REALLY?
@bluebears: Of the top four, SweetP's was the best collection. She'd come so far from her dummy collection during her season. Farther even that Chris March even, I'd argue.
@hfree: Korto was ok, but she hadn't shown any growth from her earlier work. I felt like it was more of the same--and the judges were dead on the the Restaurant piece was better than the Red Carpet Dress. I really think DannyV won merely on the Red Carpet Dress alone--that was what they wanted to offer Nicole Kidman, therefore, nothing else mattered.
@JennaW: That's what consistently disappoints me about Korto -- strong pieces, but such a poor attitude. It came out when Tim was making his rounds. He's such a good mentor in the way he reflects back the designer's energy --- and yet he had nothing to give back to Korto, because she had nothing but pouting and defensiveness to show to him.
@bluebears: It was better than a lot of the stuff she came up with on season 4. Her silver bathrobe for the Divas? Her WTF entry for the candy challenge? Did you see her Bryant park collection? She was much calmer and confident on all-stars and she kind of made her sweet biker chick vibe work. This is sounding like I liked it more than I did. The first dress was boring and very done, the pink one had major fit issues, and the red carpet one was unflattering with all that crap at the bottom. The 4th look was kind of fun conceptually.
@bluebears: God I was sooooooo angry. And even more when I remembered how much he's been mentored by the Project Runway peeps since his season ended. Tim Gunn played a big part in his book. So really, I realized after this that this was a fix. He was always going to win. What made me even angrier was that Project Runway managed to make me hate him. I loved him during his season and I've loved seeing him progress since then, but after last night? Hate him. I was so angry. He did not deserve the win.
@what a moniker!: Honestly I chalk up her attitude for the zero respect she gets. She's exceedingly talented but vastly overlooked. I'd be pissed too. She had every right to act like that last night. All that hard work and intricate design and they're like we'll go with the underwhelming collection. I mean that restaurant dress? A-Mazing. She should have won on that alone.
@EkaterinaBallerina: But she was that way all through the show. I could TOTALLY sympathize with her post-losing, but she was just showing her butt from the get-go so even though I do think she should have won, I don't have a lot of respect for her attitude.
There was no reason at all to make personal remarks about the person she lost to (even if in their private lives they're having some sort of big fight -- Leanne wasn't there so leave her out of this new challenge) -- and this was all well before she had good reason to be upset she lost again.
@Lymed: Right, but not meth I don't think and unless he relapsed he's been recovered a lot longer than the guy on the regular show. Dude looked rode hard and put away wet.
@bluebears: On a personal level I was thrilled, because I love Daniel like the great cuddly boy that he is. But on a talent level, I would have picked Uli, Korto, or Chris over what Daniel sent out. And that's if I'm being generous. His collection made me cringe.
@bluebears: Omg, the bomber vest. Why did they not even mention that one of his looks was suicide bomber (not)chic?
I always liked Uli's stuff in her season, but she just seemed like a one-trick horse. She really had improved her skills and worked with new ideas, whereas many of the others seemed to have gotten cocky and forgotten how to sew their own stuff. I thought Uli should have won. With honorable mentions to Chris, Korto and Sweet P.
Santino would have won if Lindsay Lohan was the guest judge on that episode.
