Fashion Show: Rachel Bilson's Edie Rose for DKNY It's hard to know how to feel about Rachel Bilson. On the one hand, she seems to be a completely terrible actress who was in The Last Kiss. And yet, we all admire her style unquestioningly, to the point where it kind of seemed totally logical when she announced she was starting a clothing line. She certainly always looks cute on the red carpet — but is that because she's genetically blessed and dolly-sized, or because she has some amazing knack that can be passed along to us mere mortals for the cost of a pair of stretchy jeans? Well, FabSugar has been kind enough to help us figure this out, bringing us a preview of the ingenue's collaboration with DKNY. My friend Bevin, the Joan Holloway of Brooklyn, provided council. The German capital is trying to boost its fashion rep, although its street style, as any hipster can tell you, is already ace. '“You’d never see people here taking a look straight from the runway,” said Hadnet Tesfai, a host for German MTV, who also writes about fashion for Bild, a daily newspaper. “But when it comes to design, when it comes to style, on the streets and people being creative, that’s where Berlin comes first.”' [New York Times]
 • The German press, however, contends that some designers did not comply with the health minister's rules that all models be over 16 and at least a size 2 - preferring, it would seem, to adhere to the grand tradition of sickly children. [Fashionista]
 • Citing the rise of childhood obesity in England, British school-uniform makers are extending the sizes to include women's size 18 (about a 14, U.S.) It is refrred to tactfully as the "generous fit" range, which certainly has a nicer ring to it than "husky." The Telegraph's headline, "Dress Size 18 for Obese Schoolgirls" is somewhat less sensitive. [Telegraph]

Welcome To Vogue, The Reality Show
 • Vogue is launching a reality TV show. Okay, online, but still. "The show, called Model.Live, tracks three models as they navigate casting calls, catwalks and airports for fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris" reports the Wall Street Journal. The three protagonists are described variously as "kooky", "polished and sophisticated," and "the sweet, new kid." All, presumably, are children and have BMIs in the single digits. For all their excitement about this brave new venture, apparently Vogue has concerns about exposing the seamier side of fashion: "controversial behavior like smoking or drinking." I'm guessing they'll be thrilled if that's as "controversial" as the behavior gets. [WSJ]
 • Rachel Zoe is launching a perfume, along with her reality series. “This scent will really reflect her personal style and hopefully finally brand her" says a source. Eau de Raisin, anyone? [Fashion Week Daily]
 • La Zoe is also rumored to be O-U-T out as creative consultant at Halston. [ElleUK]

 • Rad Sri Lankan rapper MIA is launching a streetwear line, video to promote it. Actually makes more sense than most, as she started as an artist. [BlackBook]

 • So, this juvenile prison in Japan has set prisoners to designing and making accessories. • French Wrangler launches some vaguely Rousseau-inspired ad campaign designed to "encourage who and what we fundamentally are, by putting all that is pure, natural and instinctive back into Man." • As Fashion Week Daily puts it, "We love anything cause-y, especially when it’s denim. " Um, I guess we agree, but now just want to distance ourselves from that quote. The caus-y denim in question? Aristocrat denim's new line, in which colored thread indicates a cause: "Ovarian Cancer Research Fund is teal, UNITY is yellow, Young Survival Coalition is pink, Love Heals is red and Earth Day Network is green. The jeans are sold at Scoop and 25% of each sale will go to the charity." Cause-y indeed! [Fashion Week Daily]

Artsy-Fartsy: Trash Bags At Whitney Young Contemporaries Party According to their website, "The Whitney Contemporaries is a dynamic group of art patrons between the ages of twenty-one and forty, committed to supporting the Whitney [Museum]'s mission of championing emerging voices and artistic innovation. Contemporaries are guaranteed exclusive access to the Whitney’s unparalleled resources and the New York art scene." Apparently this translates to the MisShapes and various women in trash bags. And no, it doesn't come cheap. Anyway, they congregated last night at Skylight in New York. Watch the usual suspects (Rachel Zoe, Rachel Bilson, Michelle Trachtenberg and Joy Bryant, among others) suffer for their art, after the jump!

The Good:
Sometimes I wish you could see "Bad" first (I know that would screw with the whole title reference) so that you could appreciate what a breath of fresh air Joy Bryant's divine ensemble is after some of this evening's fashions.

I'm sure Eva Amurri would far rather I didn't describe her as Susan Sarandon's daughter. All in good time, my dear. And your dress is lovely.

Digging Monet Mazur's use of belt.

Ditto Michelle Trachtenberg's groovy clutch.

Not my favorite look on Rachel Bilson, but I do think she's one of the few who could pull this off.

The Bad:

There is a certain horrible perfection to Rachel Zoe in this Return to the Valley of the Dolls hideosity.

You think Gretchen Mol's doing okay. And then you hit the shoes.

You can probably guess, but this pan refers to the center of the sandwich, one Melissa Gellman Weiss.

Tara Subkoff: Qhat is your motivation?!

The Ugly:
I understand that E.V. Day is an artist and therefore above the laws of normal aesthetic standards. This is why she gets her own category.

Chanel Beverly Hills: How Bad Could It Be? (Answer: Not That Bad) Yesterday in Beverly Hills, Chanel opened a new boutique, and naturally, a bevy of Hollywood fashionistas came out to celebrate. (Recessions do not apply to Robertson Boulevard, apparently.) On hand: Rachel Bilson, Leighton Meester, Emma Roberts and a sorta nasty-looking Nicollette Sheridan. Maybe because it's Friday, maybe because it was Chanel, or maybe because I'm just in a sensitive place right now, but today's Good, Bad, & Ugly is more like Good, Good, & Kinda Bad. I don't have any qualms about being nasty, but even the frumpy Ione Skye looked pretty sweet to me. Call me crazy, but I like a 90s-babysitter vibe! See for yourself after the jump.

The Good
This ain't rocket science people, it's Rachel Bilson. Can't remember when I've seen her look bad.
Emma Roberts looks stunning. I can't resist Paxil in the shape of a dress either.
I'm not sure who Francesca Gregorini is, but she's working a Jo-from-The-Facts-Of-Life look here. Jo Polniaczek is a fashion icon for the advanced, just so you know.
This just in: Michelle Trachtenberg might be my new Hollywood crush.
Please don't argue with me. I told you, I love Ione Skye's 90s babysitter ensemble. And look at her smile: She's perfect!
Just yesterday when Malin Akerman graced this page; she's obviously keeping up the good work.

The Bad:
Ann Getty looks a little blah, but she's so rich that by the time this is posted I might not ever be able to eat lunch in this town again.
Dear Carrie Whitman: Black stockings with a mini-skirt and calf-length boots don't work anymore. It's a little 5 minutes ago.com.

The Ugly
Nicolette Sheridan looks like a MILF-cougar-Hollywood B-movie pornstar. Wait, is that so bad?

Stars Wore Their Budget Best At The Rogan For Target Party marcia051608.jpgLast night, Barneys New York in Los Angeles hosted a party for the debut of Rogan For Target. Rogan, the company known for its $250 jeans, is teaming up with Target so us mere middle and lower-class mortals can get our hands on "designer" denim. Attending the party were stars of film and television: Marcia Cross, Rachel Bilson, Sanaa Lathan, Felicity Huffman, Becki Newton, Amy Smart, Gabrielle Union, The Hills' Whitney Port and many more. Who wore Good, who wore Bad and who wore Ugly? Find out, after the jump.

The Good:

TARGETfelicty051608.jpgFelicity Huffman keeps it simple and showcases toned shoulders.

TARGETgabrielle051608.jpgGabrielle Union's little summer dress is pretty cute. She should take her hands out of her pockets, though.

TARGETjoy051608.jpgLove the color and drape of Joy Bryant's dress. Beachy keen!

TARGETbecki051608.jpgLove the color of Becki Newton's dress, too! Just one piece can look so chic.

TARGETsanaa051608.jpgSanaa Lathan, golden girl. She looks so great in this dress I'm willing to forgive the borderline shoes.

TARGETrachel051608.jpgRachel Bilson's jacket and skirt seem sophisticated, but I'm torn on the shoes. They're sort of cool and new and different and they're sort of horrifying. I like the rest so much I'm erring on the side of Good.

The Bad:

TARGETmarcia051608.jpgMaria Cross: Meh. The shoes are too heavy, in my opinion. A thin-strap sandal for a more bare look might be better.

TARGETmena051608.jpgYeah, I don't know, Mena Suvari. Part of me likes the Pat Benatar thing she's got going, the other part of me winces, because how long can we do '80s?

TARGETamysmart051608.jpgAmy Smart is a lovely lady, but this dress is bad. The neckline is bad, the belt is bad and I think the fabric is bad.

TARGETelizabeth051608.jpgIs Elizabeth Banks wearing a wardrobe castoff from Sophia Coppola's Virgin Suicides?

TARGETzoe051608.jpgZoe Saldana's hemline is a gynecologist's dream.

TARGETnicky051608.jpgNicky Hiton looks awkward, like an overgrown baby doll.

TARGETmaggie051608.jpgI think Lost alum Maggie Grace looks pretty but the satin shorts are killing me. They're super cute if you're playing the role of Miss Adelaide is Guys And Dolls, but otherwise, no.

TARGETkelly051608.jpgI like Kelly Rutherford's blouse. I like Kelly Rutherford's skirt. I love Kelly Rutherford's shoes. I do not like them all together. Maybe if the blouse wasn't quite so buttoned up and the skirt were longer? I don't know.

The Ugly:

TARGETsophia051608.jpgSophia Bush is gorgeous; this weird zippered apron dress and chunky brown shoes are not.

TARGETwhitney051608.jpgOh, Whitney Port. So many trends, so little time.

 • Louis Vuitton has postponed indefinitely its "China Run" car rally, which was originally scheduled to take place in late May with a route from Chengdu and Kunming. Reason? Um, it's not exactly cool to be supporting China's blatant disregard for human rights right now and France is all pissed re: the Olympics etc etc. [WWD, sub req'd]
 • Also, Yohji Yamamoto wants to teach China about Peace and improve relations though the country and his native Japan through his new Yohji Yamamoto Fund For Peace. This will mainly involve fashion shows. Of course. [WWD, sub req'd]
 • Also China's on the warning list for counterfeiting shit. Oh, China. [WWD, sub req'd]
 • Tommy Hilfiger, ambiguously racist? Ten years ago it was positioned with a lot of red, white and blue and a lot of logos and you would look at these street kids wearing the clothes as billboards." [FT]

 • Elle still hasn't confirmed that fashion director Nina Garcia was fired, but Nina's assistants, Jade Frampton and Malina Joseph, just got big promotions, with Frampton taking the title of market editor and Joseph that of bookings editor. Senior style editor Kate Lanphear has been promoted to style director and rumors abound that she might be up for the fashion director gig herself. Can someone tell us the difference between a style director and a fashion director? The real difference, that is? That's what we thought. [WWD, 4th item]
 • Um, but these promotions seem to be a result of the fact that bookings editor Claudine Ingeniri and market editor Helane Crowell have left the magazine. Associate art director Florence Sicard has also left. [WWD, 4th item]

Mariah Carey, Renée Zellweger, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Moss, Mary J. Loose Lips bilson11608.jpgRachel Bilson is on the cover of next month's GQ, looking a little hungry. Or is she just a little airbrushed? Regardless, she tells the mag she loves hash browns, Nas, and Samuel L. Jackson. • Wanna see pics of Nicole Richie's new baby?
