@wednesdayam: Funny thing - they totally do! In one of the blogs she writes that her mom is making enchiladas. "Yummy" is apparently ok for the food, not the people themselves. Glad we latinos are good for something.

@Mafalda para Presidente: Ugh. I hate it when racist folks start attributing foods they like to the European cultures that "discovered" whatever land or people the food came from to keep with their "white folks are the best at everything!" ideals. Someone needs to inform these gals that enchiladas, tamales, any of the good stuff made with masa - all of it is originally American (the continent, not USA-American), and thus, invented by the scary brown folks they feel are not as worthy as them. All the somewhat-white Spaniards brought was paella, farm animals, garlic, onions, rice and some of their fancy spices. And wheat, along with farming practices that originated in Europe and were totally wrong for the Americas, which kinda screwed up the Mexican farmlands for a long time. But hey, according to these chicks, white folks are always right, so the non-white people they basically enslaved on the haciendas must have just been farming the land all wrong or something.
Sorry, I run off on tangents sometimes, especially when I'm sleepy. :)

@LaComtesse: I doubt they would consider ITalians white...up until the 1940s/50s Italians, Greeks, Albanians, etc were considered a different race (Mediterranean) just as people from Cuba, Guatemala, Peru, Mexico, etc are considered a different race (Hispanic). Blargh.

@LaComtesse: Italians probably wouldn't be considered white/aryan by these people. Traditionally (up until about the World Wars or so), Italians (along with other "white ethnics" like the Irish, Polish, and basically all Eastern Euopeans) weren't considered "white", especially since many of them were Catholic.

I decided some ways back that while every opinion may qualify as "an opinion" (yep, you've got one, there, girls), they are not all equally valid. The well-reasoned, logically argued, factually supported opinion is going to be more valid than the one that isn't. If I've spent years on a subject and someone else has spent the preceding three seconds, their opinion is not "just as good" as mine. Doesn't mean everyone has to agree with me (I can respect a well-thought out difference of opinion) but my opinion on Etrustcan art is useless; these girls' are functionally as ill-informed, and their opinion is thus useless to me as well, except as an insight into the sort of thinking that needs changing.

I like to hear such so-called "arguments" so I can disassemble them and reveal them as the stupidity they are - there is NEVER a good argument in favor of prejudice. Probably won't reach anyone as far-gone as these two, but might pull back the curtain for the ignorant but educable.

@solaana: Ohhh, please don't wish for that. I knew a guy that was the result of one such unfortunate coupling. His own mother used to refer to him as a "little n*****." He used to wear blue contact lenses because he thought they made him look whiter, and told everyone he met that he was Hawaiian because he was too ashamed to say biracial.
