@A WASP and a Gentleman: I just went back and read your comment record. It turns out when you say "please" and then something mean/condescending/obnoxious it doesn't automatically make you a gentleman.
@A WASP and a Gentleman: Why shouldn't marriage have something to do with love? In a world where so many marriages are falling apart because they lack love, why would you ever want to discourage two in-love adults from getting married?
You have missed the point by such a wide margin that it baffles me you even bothered to post at all.
My trans friend Spencer lives in California now, but his parents went to a protest in Massachusetts in support of him. Whenever I hear of parents supporting their LGBTQ kids like that, it always makes me cry. Just like the siblings with signs in the above pictures. It's really, truly amazing.
What is so fantastic about this whole thing is the idea of fighting hate with humor. It is the perfect way to combat what could best be termed "civil violence" with peaceful retaliation, and maintaining the higher ground.
The twin posters are great because they put a very real point on the whole thing. Why should two people who are identical genetically not get the same rights civilly?
But my favorite sign of the bunch is "Give us equal rights or we start giving bad fashion advice". That made me snort.
This makes me cry, it's all so beautiful. I'm straight, but my little brother is gay and I will not stop fighting for equality or feeling the hurt until this is fixed. It is just like any other bullying he's encountered throughout his life, I will cut a bitch until they apologize.
@Jessi Ramsey: I kept looking at all the pictures and saying "This is my favorite...no this is...no this is...", but this one definitely is my favorite. I'm going to start a "Girls who had Gay Prom Dates for Gay Marriage!" group.
While the Statue of Liberty kissing Lady Justice a la D-day is ingenious, I keep giggling at the sign "My mom is a little bit country and my other mom is a little bit rock-n-roll."
And as I look at these photos across the internet, the spirit of love, acceptance and community is inspiring. How can some folks be so afraid of gay people (or anyone not line themselves), and think they are akin to monsters whose favorite snack is children, and whose favorite hobby is oppressing those who do not fall in line? Yeah, haters, project much?
These people are our friends, our family, our neighbors, they are us.
@veekee: I know, they were SO cute!! I hope they can never remember a time when gay marriage wasn't legal.(they look young enough to not have permanent memories yet)
There are some great signs! I was so, so upset that I couldn't attend the protest near me because I was stuck in a weekend class. I'm in Florida, too, where there was anti-gay legislation passed.
Thanks to everyone that made it out to support us and protest all this hatred!
@bluebears: There's a saying, "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride." I guess about women who aren't married even though they are of marrying age or all their friends are married. It's a play on that.
