On a lively thread, if you've been pulled away from the computer for a few hours (oh noez!) you want to come back and see what's been said.
Ironically, the longer the thread, the less likely it is that comments will load past the first page.

Another one for the tech team (I know; love the edit feature, though!): I tried clicking on someone's heart today and couldn't get it to stick. The only way I could make it work was to go that person's profile page and click the heart there. This is on Firefox 3.5/Mac.

Hey, lovely tech team supporting lovely Jezebel? This is comparatively trivial, but someone else may be having the same problem.

I notice my most recent comment's time stamp was 12:06 AM instead of 12:06 PM.

Instead of wondering what weekend libation accompanies my lunchtime JezeBreak, people will start thinking I'm an underachieving insomniac.

XP, Firefox 3.x.

On my home computer (Vista, Firefox 3.x) I cannot get comments to show up as threaded discussion-- they only show up as the old "Classic" view.

I was under the impression, though, that Classic no longer exists? Regardless, I can't find a toggle for the feature anywhere.

I tried refreshing, logging in and out, clearing my cache, nothing. At work (XP, Firefox 3.x), comments show up as threaded just fine...

Anyone else?

Any chance we can get an option to default to show all comments? As one of the Grey People here, it bothers me that I can't see what others of my kind are writing unless I go and click the thing on the bottom of the page. Also, the grey is tough to read when combined with the blue background. I do understand why there are two Tiers (don't like it at all, but understand) but can it be a bit easier on the eyes to read?

@spamanda: Yes please! I've been going out of my way all morning to only respond to the Grey People and it's kind of a pain to scroll to the bottom, view all comments, then scroll BACK down to the bottom because it tries to start me at the top again. Can we at least get the view all comments option at the top of the comments as well?

@spamanda: of course, this thread is currently only grey people, so one is going to see it. it's also annoying that when a non-starred person replies to a starred person, it doesn't even show up unless you click 'show all comments.' this whole thing is ridiculous.

I would love it if the show-all comments link could be moved to the top. I have been using that - because unlike some, I actually want to read all of the comments - but it's a pain to have to scroll down to get to it.

@whynotshesaid: I concur, and I expressed this yesterday, but that thread was such a madhouse that important suggestions like this one bear repeating. I know it's not hard to scroll down, but it's so easy to get caught up in or simply saturated by comments on the way down to click the all comments option.

@whynotshesaid: I second that emotion. It would be a really nice fix whenever the webby folks can get around to it. I think it would also help for people who are new to Jezebel, for them to realize more easily that there even ARE more comments to be seen.

This may be slightly OT, but will we be getting clarification on some of the other new, distressing issues? I realize that yesterday's post was quite thorough, but still- sometimes I'm black, sometimes I'm gray, it seems to be all over the place for many people. I would like to not be gray. It makes sense to me for unapproved commenters to be gray, but for the rest of us (casual but committed) commenters it really feels as though something has been taken from us.

Also, a default to let me expand comments would be nice. Otherwise, I would never get to see what I'm saying.

Have you also made changes to the way pictures are incorporated with posts? I use google reader and since things have changed I can only see about half of the images. the rest say "the image associated with this post is best viewed using a browser"-- which is annoying. :)

@MaiaDawgette: I have the same issue with my Rss program (NetNewsWire) so my question for the tech team is: will it change something if I suscribe to Atom vs plain ole Xml Rss feed? thanks in advance! (edit: I use MacOS 10.4 and NetNewsWire 3.1.7 if that's of any help)

FYI, I seem to have the biggest problems when I try to access comments from my profile--you know, clicking the link to one of my own comments to see who's responded. Comments simply refuse to load when I go in that way--no matter how many refreshes. (Firefox/PC)

@Callinectes: Yes, I've found that nothing works beyond the most basic first page of comments. Anything that requires going to a subsequent page, or going to a specific comment or response is totally non-functional.

I am reserving judgment about the new system, but I really don't understand why you would implement it BEFORE doing the bug testing.

Windows Vista & Latest Firefox (3.00.11? maybe - I suck at finding the version references) = I can only see the first page of responses. If I click on the link to another page (say 2 or above) = all comments disappear. Anyone had this bug and figured out how to squash it? Patience is my worst virtue.

I'm not sure whether this is a bug or how it was intended, but so others know -

I noticed that you can't respond to two people in the same comment anymore. Click on the first comment you want to respond to, get the @firstperson and type your response. Now if you click to respond to a second comment in the same thread, you get the @secondperson, but the @firstperson along with everything you already typed disappears. FYI.

@CurtCole: I've been wondering if that's the problem; the developer of the changes is only doing serious testing on one browser (me = web developer). If they're Mac folks, then Safari would make sense as their default testing browser... Hrmmmm.

@JennaW: Well, I've tried Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, and I get mixed results. I do find that reloading the page helps, but it's not consistent. I suspect the problem lies in the Ajax calls that are no doubt made to pull content -- it'll probably end up being a server issue.

@tonightineed is actually Mrs. Ziegler-Spock et. al.: Yeah, the letdown with Safari, she was biggish. But I'm getting to comments more often than before, so let's hope the tech folk are making progress.

@NefariousNewt -- I agree. Their Ajax and javascript are problematic -- but then that's always been true. I've often had comments-loading issues; they just went critical mass with this update.

Your comment shows up on the main page and so even those w/o comments loading will see it. I downloaded Safari and it works. Yeah!
