    I am sure the collection sold out at Barneys. I went to Barneys and Bergdorfs a few weekends ago on a Saturday afternoon. Nothing was on sale, and both places were PACKED. Women were sitting on couches (hardly anywhere to sit!) trying on armfuls of 500 plus dollar shoes. I couldn't believe it. It looked like how those departments looked 2 years ago when everything was marked down 70%. But nothing was. There were LINES for dressing rooms and cash registers.


    If I didn't know better the whole experience would have made me think, "phaw, there is no recession!"

    AUGH. They can't! Max Factor Lash Perfection is my favorite mascara ever. I get so many compliments on it and people asking me where I buy it. Time to hoard. The problem being, of course, that mascara has the shortest shelf life of any cosmetic. Boo.

    @saralegal21: As long as you don't open it, the shelf life isn't bad on mascara, so you can stock up.


    Plus if you don't use mascara every day, buy disposable wands and use those instead of the wand in the tube. This means you don't transfer the bacteria from eye to tube and therefore make the product safer and last a good few months longer (providing you never double dip the disposable!)

    What always blew my mind is that M.F. never seemed to use its 'Old Hollywood Glamour' cache in adverts or new makeup collections


    How many women would have absolutely bought up gobs of Max Factor lipsticks if it had been marketed as "The True Reds from the 40's" collection, complete with the clear/cool/rose designations?


    Instead they put out a ridiculously multi-hued Carmen Electra and copies of everything Cover Girl made.

    @DinnerBelle: I mean, just hire Dita VonTeese and market yourself to the pin-ups, rockabilly girls and other retro enthusiasts. It's such a huge and quietly popular movement.


    And then there are others of us who aren't really any of the above and would just like to look like Rita Hayworth for a day.


    Seems like a no brainer to me, and such a wasted opportunity.

    I'm so glad it'll still be available in the UK. My entire make-up drawer - and it's a BIG drawer - is either Mac or Max Factor. I'd cry if it was discontinued here!

    @saintbernadette: Strange...it is being heavily promoted here in the UK including TV ads for their False Lash Effect mascara. They even re-branded the packaging to look more like MAC...


    I'm a big fan of their products, so this headline originally caused me to hyperventilate til I read on! I'm glad his legacy is continuing somewhere.
