    I feel like dudes go through at least two phases of ill-advised facial hair: middle school "hey look I can grow hair!!!" and college "maybe this will make me look distinguished, or cooler." It's nice to know that royalty is no exception, and equally nice to know that Prince William is good looking regardless.

    @snappletree: I am very proud to say that I've avoided this awful fate- mostly because my facial hair has yet to gain colour.

    One day, my sweet, sweet cheeks. One day. However, as a Jez-addict, I pledge to avoid chin straps, goatees, moustaches (creepy and non-creepy alike), beards (except my BFFs, but that might not be facial hair), and sideburns.

    I have a Prince William story!

    Well, actually not Wills exactly...but I used to work out at a gym where there was a guy who looked just like Prince William, in a good way, a really good way. And turns out he was a minor league pro hockey player who started bringing along teammates to work out. Well, Jezzies, that just made me drag my lazy self to the gym even more because I am a shallow horndog like that and I started working out all the damn time just for glimpses of Prince William's athletic clone.


    The point of the story: My wanting to tap Prince William's ass gave me a perky one of my own.


    Sigh. Too bad he got traded.

    My butt is droopy again.


    So as not to threadjack: Lose the beard, Will. And start hanging out at my gym!

    @littlebunnyfoofoo: While on vacation in the UK, we were on a tour bus in London. Early, early, early AM. Jetlagged. This was 1993 or 1994.


    Fetching blonde in an open car drives by. Half the bus is near to fainting. I'm scrambling for my camera as this is Obviously Important.


    Blonde drives by, gives us a wave and big smile.


    Didn't find the camera in time. Bus driver pulls over, Overwhelmed. "That...was...the...Princess!!!!!", he gasps.


    The one that got away. No pics. Just a story. She was totes gorgeous, though! Thrilled to have eluded her security and out for a drive like a Regular Person. I'm glad she had a good day.

    another time i did wait outside a leicester square cinema before a royal premiere like a dork. i could barely see her from where i was, but she almost glowed, light emanating from her beaded, applique one shoulder gown. wowsa.

    @Huggy McStabberson is very confused this holiday season: She really was a natural beauty. Aside from her physical beauty, she had That Thing. The It. She did glow, as you said. She had That Thing. You wanted to stop her and meet her and get to know her. She somehow pulled off Normal Person and Important Person seamlessly. You could see she was important, yet still see the vulnerability, the humanity and fragility of her. Strength and fragility at once: that was her charm. For aren't we all made of the same?

    @Huggy McStabberson is very confused this holiday season: Aww, you're going to make me cry! Because when she drove by us that day, she had the same sidelong glance she's famous for, but there was such Intensity to her smile: you just knew she was getting away with something, and you wanted her to get away with it. And she did, at the end, look at us headlong. That's when I got it. It was HER. She had the look of a child getting a cookie form the jar, you know? Happy, proud, knowing she had done something 'naughty', but soooooo gleeful. I hope she had many moments feeling that way. Because she looked so totally joyful. I hope her sons got to see her that way. You know?

    @theysaidwhat: Crap. Now I really am going to cry, because I doubt her sons saw her that way. This was 93 or 94, and how would they remember that?


    But Harry and Wills, if by some strange stroke of fate you are reading this: your mom had that Thing. She connected with people. She was so strong and yet let her vulnerability, her human kindness, shine through,so that you FELT IT if you were anywhere near her. I will try to describe it. You felt that she would fight 'til the end for you, yet needed your protection. She wanted to cure all your ills, but clearly knew the pain you had suffered in your life: this was communicated silently and instantly. She wanted to be your best friend and protector, and you wanted to be hers. She was not a perfect woman-none of us is. But her heart was in the right place. And it was somehow instantly accessible to nearly everyone she met. Perhaps she gave too freely of herself. But she made an impression on everyone she met. I hope that she saved some of that for you boys, and you carry it with you always. You don't have to live up to a saint--just know that she wanted to give all of herself to you, so you could have the best chance at life.

    I like the beard, which is strange because I'm not typically a fan of facial hair. It works on him though. Also, it makes the growing bald spot less noticeable.

    @avery1458: joke aside, i actually like the beard, but i'm a bit older -- i don't think i would have in my 20s. but overall though he has really lost teh hawtness of just 5 years ago or so.


    @littlebunnyfoofoo: the beard makes him look older. the receding hairline, maybe, throws the proportions of his face off symmetry.


    he's still a cutie though, just not on his brother's level of hot.

I'm curious but the stuff I've heard about it (former fans I know will yell, "Sell-out!", cross themselves, and spit on the ground at the mention of this record) makes me...afraid. Another one of my 90s music heroes bites the dust.

    @Your Screenplay Sucks: I don't think people realize that all oppression is the same just applied differently. Many people see racist language/rhetoric as "OMG TERRIBLE NO NO YOU CANT SAY THAT" but sexist and homophobic language as "well, it isn't as bad as racist language"

    It's things like that that allow sexism and homophobia to not be taken as seriously.
