    Isn't Ghana on the West Coast of Africa? Sub-saharan Africa would be like SAfrica, the DRC, Mozambique etc.

    They showed footage of Michelle fixing Sasha's hair and I thought it was lovely. It sounds crazy when you say it or think about it but to see it was amazing. The First Lady fixing the First Daughter's hair in Ghana at the Cape Coast castle.

    My favorite thing about Cape Coast castle is the plaque that hangs on the entrance that says simply this:



    "In everlasting memory



    Of the anguish of our ancestors

    May those who died rest in peace

    May those who return find their roots

    May humanity never again perpetrate

    such injustice against humanity

    We, the living, vow to uphold this"

    I feel so dirty thinking, my god, that fort/slavery outpost is beautiful. also, I'm so happy that our President is visiting such an important historical place, and teaching his children about it (and possibly teaching people who see the photo and otherwise didn't know about it).

    God I miss home! Yay Cape Coast castle! It's a beautiful landmark and it houses so much history and so much pain.



    I wish they had had a chance to go to Elmina Castle and some of the forts as well. Because Cape Coast is such a tourist destination it's a little more sanitized. In Elmina the ghosts are all over the place and it really hits you how big this thing was.
