    I get terribly frazzled when driving in rain. Possibly because my car hydroplanes like it thinks it's a fucking boat and also because I can't make it up the hills to my work if the roads are wet. True story. I drive a 1998 Toyota so there's no reason for these things to be true, but they are.


    Also, you should probably know that I live in Seattle.

    I'm just giving you the reason and why the Prophet Muhammad set the precedent. Also, women are not allowed to lead prayer. Men do it. Hence, men in front. It's an issue of modesty and it works very well.

    @smoohead: I don't think there's anything wrong with men and women praying mixed or segregated. I know when I pray with women in front of me, I'm not staring at their ass, and would be doubly shamed if I was during pray. With that said, I don't think there's anything inherently liberating amount mixed prayers or limiting about segregated. The meaning attached to segregated prayers--men in front-->superior gender-->only gender worthy of leading prayer-->God prefers men--needs to be eradicated.
    But I don't think men wouldn instantly fall out upon a 60 yrs. old women prostrating in prayer in front of them.

    Well the women pray behind the men because if we prayed in front or in between them, they would surely (being men) be distracted by the curvature of our arses. Sad but true. And I think it should stay that way, cultural or not!

    @smoohead: But the same could be said when people go to Catholic mass and have to constantly be seating down-standing up-seating down, and somehow men manage to pray and mind their own business meanwhile.

    There's, of course, the probability of bad apples, but I think men can control themselves better than that, especially if they are worshiping.

He told our class about this one time when a lady was all panicky and took her daughter to the doctor because they both thought she had an infected appendix and was going to die!


    Two hours later, she gave birth to a baby boy.

    @PinkSoxHat: There's a show on Discovery Health about women who didn't know they were pregnant until they actually went into labor/popped out the baby. It is completely terrifying, and yes, one woman gave birth in a toilet.

But isn't there a difference between not realizing you're pregnant and not realizing that you just went through labor and delivered a child?

    In my continuing interest in correcting asinine reporting on the Lori Drew thing... from the linked article:


    Among the issues Wu is considering is whether Drew can be held responsible since evidence indicates she technically didn't set up the MySpace page. Testimony indicated one of her employees did.


    I seriously doubt the judge is considering this. The judge is considering, as a matter of law, whether the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act can apply to this kind of conduct. Assuming it does, the question of whether Lori Drew actually engaged in the conduct at issue is a question of fact, which goes to the jury.
