@keldo: He sold the business in 2005, so he had nothing to do with the decision. It must be odd to no longer have creative control over your own name. #lindsaylohanforungaro
@keldo: Yeah but, well, he sold his name. If you don't want to lose control of your image, don't sell your name. Didn't he learn anything from What's Love Got to Do With It?! #lindsaylohanforungaro
@Halfmad also known as MaxAgron: Aww, who could have predicted it would have been put into the hands of a coke-addled starlet, as opposed to the next Francisco Costa/Tom Ford? What happened here really has no precedent. I still feel bad for the guy. #lindsaylohanforungaro
Italian cashmere producer Brunello Cucinelli runs a factory with long lunch breaks, no timeclocks, and posted "rules" are quotes from philosophers and writers. He thinks he can afford to be both a great boss and a good businessman, and his company's revenues for this year are forecast to reach 154 million Euros, which is some 7% greater than last year, even with the recession
I totally get the German VOGUE shoot. Bruce Weber was born in Pennsylvania, and they have a large German population there. Christie Brinkley, um...looks German? and lives in the Hamptons...and Jorge Garcia might actually have been lost. The End! (Get it...Montauk = "The end?")
The macaroons from Payard were AMAZING! I used to work around the corner, and I would go in and get coffees (el boss would pay). The waiters got to recognize me and would give me handfuls of delicious FREE macaroons!
Too bad Payard was shut down. Apparently they had a terrible mouse infestation. #lindsaylohanforungaro
@Mary McCarthyite: OOh maybe, thanks! It was an engagement gift, I'd be sad to see it go to waste. Plus, think of all the macaroons $100 could buy! #lindsaylohanforungaro
Ok. I thought the blurb said that Christopher Bailey left Burberry, and I panicked. I could never afford anything from them, but I love looking at it, and would be sad if he left. #lindsaylohanforungaro
@Mary McCarthyite: Oh, no no. I'm a fan of both and also of Jenna's writing. (I think she should submit her own book for consideration to that Princeton prof she wrote about yesterday, hint hint.)
And, although when she writes about the mixtures such as above, they turn out gleefully bizarre, I'm just wondering if some things just shouldn't be crossed.
(Maybe I should have compared it to the circus in Something Wicked This Way Comes. I loved that novel, but I wouldn't want that particular traveling band to show up in my town -- and I'm a New Yorker; we see (and sometimes are) the weirdest of the weird -- you know?) #lindsaylohanforungaro
Two blurbs about Macy's does it. I hate that place. I hate the layout, design , and the merchandise.
Macy's has been around Minnesota for a while now and I don't know a single person who enjoys shopping there.
I know I will never get over losing Dayton's/Marshall Fields, but there is something really off about Macy's. #lindsaylohanforungaro
@TheUptightMidwesterner: I agree 100%. I miss Daytons/Marshaff Fields. The only Macy's I like is at Southdale, and I suspect that is only because it is more akin to Daytons than the other stores. #lindsaylohanforungaro
I think a large part of Ann Taylor's problem, is that there is no clear vision of who the Ann Taylor woman is, and what kind of image the company wants to project. As a woman in my early twenties, I find their clothing too old-looking, and somewhat dowdy, but for my mother, who is 50, they are too young and trying too hard to be trendy. They are always just a little off the mark and I constantly find myself saying, "Oh, this dress would be cute, if only...". #lindsaylohanforungaro
@Tchotchke: It seems like AT's window is very small, like women 35-40. You're right, their clothing is really kind of frumpy and I never buy much more than the occasional pair of pants (b/c pants are pants are pants, for me). My mom used to love AT but now, at 60+, she can't wear a thing there except an occasional cardigan. It's disappointing, b/c growing up I thought the store was the height of sophistication, with really luxe fabrics and well-cut pieces. Of course, I was 12 at the time, and knew nothing of fashion. #lindsaylohanforungaro
@willwriteforfood: For me, I have always associated the store with my teachers in grammar and high school. The clothing was conservative, a little dowdy, but still young enough for a 35 year old to wear without looking frumpy. Sometimes, however, stores go through these periods as an inevitable part of their lifecycle.
For example, recently J. Crew seems to have really hit its stride. The clothing is stylish, well-made and has a clear vision of who they want to represent. I shop there and so does my mother and we can do so without looking like one another or age-inappropriate. When I was younger, however, J. Crew was almost a punchline because of how absurdly preppy/conservative it was. I remember lots of pastel-colored, boxy, sexless cardigans that flattered no one. Similarly, the Gap captured a mid-late '90s aesthetic pretty well, but then lost its touch in recent years.
I think that unlike smaller or higher-end labels, retailors face the very difficult task of straddling the area between being fashionable, and still having a broad appeal. Some do it more successfully than others. However, I am sure that one of the other Jezzies who works in fashion, like Penny, could better explain why this happens to some retailors. I just find it fascinating. #lindsaylohanforungaro
Psh, macaroons are easy as pie. I got a 100 on Cooking Mama only the second time I made them.
The first time, I put the wrong color of jam on the inside. Shut up, Mama, green and pink look tasty! ...but then I gave in and put green on green. #lindsaylohanforungaro
@Mary McCarthyite: Unfortunately, Mama disagrees and will smite you with her flamey wrath (while offering help). I wait for the day she looks away, and then I shall put the wrong-colored jam! haha!
@noisy doll: I've never tried them for real. I heard they are amazingly difficult. Which is weird, because they look like jam-filled cookies to me, but I admit to knowing nothing about cooking at all. #lindsaylohanforungaro
@boxspelunker: The macaroon part is super easy to make (then sandwich them with anything you want)--they're only affected by weather sometimes. If you're not a perfectionist, it will be fine: [tinyurl.com]#lindsaylohanforungaro
@ardentlilac: Ooh, those sound tasty! I want cookies now! I will probably just go play the DS instead and make digital cookies :) #lindsaylohanforungaro
It would be awesome if the Glamour blurb was about them booking plus-sized models for the covers through February. That will be when a real statement is made. #lindsaylohanforungaro
Does anyone really believe that Lindsay designed anything for Ungaro? They brought her in, what, two weeks before the show? The company made a huge mistake in thinking it would generate publicity by hiring her. It did generate publicity, just not the right kind. Ungaro should be mad at Ungaro, the company. Lindsay should never have taken on this sham of a thing. #ragtrade
@BlondeGoddess: Yeah, I'm not sure where he gets off being furious. You made a mistake, you booked an actress to design a line for no apparent reason and on the basis of ... what, exactly? When it isn't amazing, that's called a natural consequence. Not some huge failure on her part. It's not like she tricked them with her awesome previous collections. #lindsaylohanforungaro
@yvanehtnioj: Mr. Ungaro is no longer with the company--it wasn't his mistake to make. The CEO of Ungaro has certainly tarnished the reputation of the house, therefore, tarnishing the reputation of it's founder. After all of Mr. Ungaro's years of work and passion, he might be remembered by this joke of a collection. #lindsaylohanforungaro
@bitchney: That makes more sense. And at the link it comes across more that he was furious at the collaboration than at her. So, uh, rage on Emanuel. #lindsaylohanforungaro
@hortense: That's a good question. All of the coverage has been so negative, people are forgetting Lindsay isn't actually the designer -- she has some bullshit title like "creative consultant"; Estrella is the head designer. How much she's expected to kowtow to Lindsay is unknown. She wasn't really widely known in fashion until now, so perhaps if she plays her cards right -- and she certainly hasn't been doing much press -- she could pass the whole mess off as Lindsay's idea and get another job after an appropriate interval elapses. #lindsaylohanforungaro
@hortense: It's no one but Ungaro's fault for hiring a completely inexperienced celebrity solely because of her ability to garner press coverage and this perception that her fashion is "young" and "sexy." #lindsaylohanforungaro
