In reply to Sarah Palin Warns Of Pro-Choice "Mind-Set"
Sarah, just because you admittedly thought about aborting your "not perfect" baby, that doesn't necessarily mean that that is the only reason people think about abortion... #sarahpalin

Sarah Palin's only purpose to draw the true believers of the paranoid wing of the Republican Party. And she's doing an excellent job. It is the job of the sane and rational to ensure that these people never elect a national candidate. I am so ready for her and her cabal of myopic followers. I hope everyone else is, too. #sarahpalin

I have to say, that is pretty clever of her speech writers. To suggest that making sure women have reproductive rights is actually INSULTING to women, suggesting they are stupid or not strong, that means that pro-lifers can claim they are feminists that actually respect women. Repulsive, but very clever. #sarahpalin

i don't get how the elderly will be targeted for euthanasia should a government-backed healthcare plan kick in. i thought the majority of elderly are already in medicare, which is a government-backed healthcare plan?

what saddens me the most is that so many people are too stupid to connect the dots in this simple way: elderly=medicare=government healthcare. #sarahpalin

In reply to Sarah Palin Warns Of Pro-Choice "Mind-Set"
This rhetoric makes me livid because it's flat out lying...and for whatever reason, it works.

And I'm so frustrated because it's almost impossible to convince anyone who thinks being Pro-Choice is anything like what she's saying that it's not. It's the polar opposite.

I absolutely do believe women are capable of doing those things, as long as there's a system in place that helps make that possible. But I also believe no woman should be forced to carry to term. Because I wouldn't want anyone to be forced to abort. Is that so hard to understand? That choice is about ALL of this? It's about being able to have an "imperfect" child without having to suffer for it? About not being forced to, but being able to choose to?

And to be frank, life at any cost is not, in my opinion, always the most compassionate view. There are birth defects, deformities, and congenital conditions that it is in every way a compassionate decision to terminate.
People can choose not to, but I'm tired of the idea that Pro-Choice is some kind of callous position.

Further, I want our elderly folks to be cared for. I'm sickened by the way we abandon them and are so afraid of that stage of life that we just shuffle off the responsibility. Being Pro-Choice hasn't hampered my ability to understand all the ethical nuances in both situations. And I'm disgusted that this woman would make such a suggestion.

It's just so wrong to to say these things. So wrong and awful and destructive. #sarahpalin

@Cerridwen: I'm just so tired of it. And I am Pro-Choice, fully, no matter what. I don't believe it's any of my business why someone would need to terminate a pregnancy, because I sure wouldn't want someone deciding that for me.

I just can't fathom equating one with the other. Being Pro-Choice doesn't make you inhuman or unethical or not compassionate. I'd actually argue that, because being Pro-Choice requires taking a much more difficult political position...and because advocating for choices will always be advocating for something technically more difficult than having things required/dictated of you...then you're more likely to be compassionate and ethical and understanding of nuance. Because you have to be. That's pretty much the nature of choice, in any circumstance. #sarahpalin

This whole "pro-choice people want to euthanize the elderly" thing is pissing me off. The whole anti-choice argument is that abortion is killing an innocent life that can't defend itself, so to apply that to the elderly completely robs them of their agency. It is so condescending. I wish she would just say, "I'm mean they're old; it's not like they can take care of themselves!" and get it over with.

    Sarah Palin is despicable. #sarahpalin

Okay, I think I fixed her statement:

[Society should be] sending a message right now [, that it should have] for probably the last 40 years, that a woman [is] strong enough [and] smart enough to be able to pursue an education, a career and [make decisions about her own body without the intrusion of the government by religiously motivated conservatives blowhards like myself and my followers].

Whew - that was a lot of work.

Ms. Palin, don't rag on mind-sets just because you can't afford one.

P.S. I'm pretty sure that if she did have a mind, her "mind-set" would consist of aerial wolf-hunting, sports journalism, and the distrust of logic. Words cannot express my growing dislike for this human being; her and her redneck family single-handedly display everything that is wrong with our culture today. I truly hope something horrible and shocking comes out about her because I am so sick and tired of people listening to this vacuous bitch. #sarahpalin

@cand86: Why shouldn't the government be doing health care? That's what my taxes pay for. If I pay for wars, I should pay to insure the basic health of the Republic, and that is best taken care of by...taking care of the citizens of the Republic, and yes, that includes those who aspire to be citizens, too. They all contribute, we all contribute....why shouldn't we get something back?

If health care is so damned expensive, then what about wingnut welfare and corporation personhood? Those things damage the common good, and yet there's no huge outraged movement devoted to disputing them. #sarahpalin

It boggles my mind that in a country with millions of people this is one of the chosen to get every verbal spillage aired. It's not even so much that I disagree with everything she says but that she just doesn't have to back up her statements with facts, figures, or truth. It's like tabloid politics. #sarahpalin
