Ugh. The LAPD is the just a huge waste of state money. I wouldn't be saying this if they actually did their jobs but they don't (they're still corrupt as shit). Has anyone else from L.A. noticed them skulking around on the streets more looking for people to stop and ticket? Cali. is so hard up they send these assholes out on the street more often to stop people and get that speeding ticket/other offense money. #policebrutality

@Evie Havok: I've been pretty impressed with some of the work the LAPD has done under Bratton. All major crime rates are down, homicides are at a 38-year low, and the gang sweeps over the last year have been very thorough and well executed.

As a "police do nice things also story" My friend and I were crossing the street this week and a lady in her Lexus ran a stop sign and cut us off. There just happened to be a police car behind her and they quickly pulled her over. I just appreciated that they treated it as serious. I know there are important crimes than pissing people off in a cross walk, but we really appreciated it! We drove by and said thank you! #policebrutality

You all know the Milgrim Experiemtn? Where they take a group of volunteers, divide them into "prisoners" and "guards" and see what happens in 48 hours - I think there's a goal - the prisoners are supposed to confess something. Anyway - all it does it prove the cliche - power corrupts. The "guards" become sadistic and abusive, and those who disagree are too afraid to go against their fellows. This department gets a massive FAIL. And it's not surprising at all.

And the apologists on this site? You made your point. But you haven't changed my mind - or as I read it, anybody's here. And your condescending refusal to understand why the ordinary observer's conscience should be shocked by this kind of behaviour betrays your bias. If this is systemic, the system is broken.

At my law firm some clients and their son were victims of a home invasion, 3 masked men with guns. Once they left after having robbed and beaten the man and his son, the family called the police. They were subsequently taken individually in the back of cruisers and interrogated for 3 hours. Fuck the police.

Even if they thought she was a suicide risk, there are procedures that are in place to protect both the person being arrested and the officers; these officers completely disregarded those procedures, and what they did was assault. You are really stretching.

@debo matar la zombi goldberry83: No, they didn't disregard the procedures at all. I asked my friend who is a detention officer herself, and she is livid at reactions like the ones on this site. This IS SOP, she did express suicidal ideations, she became difficult to deal with, they needs help to get her out of her clothes -- my friends has had a woman try to even twist her paper suicide watch gown into a noose and hang herself. This is only horrific b/c she wasn't the person who should have been arrested. This is standard, and often times, warranted.

I think it's easy to assume that the police are always right (or always wrong, on the other side), but given the circumstances here (especially the fact that she shouldn't have been arrested in the first place), it's clearly not the right choice.

I HATE cops. And I know I shouldn't generalize, but it's not that there a few bad apples on police forces. I genuinely believe that cops are mostly bad with a few good apples. My dad is a cop, and I have known lots of cops. Most are full-blown or borderline sociopaths. They have carte blanche to sadistically abuse the most powerless members of society and very, very rarely do they ever get called on it. I know of so many incidents of police abusing the poor, the homeless, the mentally ill, the developmentally disabled, immigrants, minorities, etc. It makes my blood boil.

@KittenFluff: Nope, she's wrong, legally anyway. This is not a sexual assault. If she answered yes, that she had thought about harming herself, she gets stripped and put in isolation. That's what happens. I'm normally a liberal bunny-hugger, but all this brouhaha over what is absolutely SOP, but unfortunately happened to the wrong person, is blowing my mind. Haven't you ever known anyone who's been in jail before? These cops didn't know she was the victim, all they knew was that she was acting out and she was dangerous and they needed more officers to help subdue her and get her into isolation. Seriously. This shit happens. It's legal, and it's normally for the safety of the inmate and the officers.

In Vancouver, a polish man was tasered to death by RCMP after freaking out because security would not let him leave. He spoke polish and no one understood him. Police have to be better trained to deal with all the colours of humanity because the media, as shown here, will not let them get away with this shite anymore.

@Cerridwen: No, he wasn't having a psychotic break - he was angry because he'd been detained at the airport for TEN hours and no one could be bothered to find an interpreter. Oh wait - actually, the cops SAID NO to a fireman who spoke Polish and volunteered to come with them. And before they even got within 20 feet of him the younger ones were begging their CO to let them hit him with the Taser first. It's a goddamn disgrace. And they won't be punished for it.
Too many experienced police officers a retiring without anyone to replace them. Hot-headed rookies with guns = problems.

Oh, great, another reason for me to shake like the devil next time a cop pulls me over. Last time I was in the car when someone got pulled over, the cop shone the light inside and asked why we all looked so nervous.

UM, BECAUSE OF YOU. Because you can basically do whatever you want to use out here, on the side of the road, and no one will stop or think twice. And now, apparently, you can do whatever you want to us in your station (and film it, no less).

Disgusting, troubling, and awful. I cannot watch the video while working, but I want to do it later. Reason being, sometimes you have to witness horror.

I can only hope that the actual law is thrown at these disgusting people. Horrific that because of their (poorly) chosen career they could possibly get away with all of this despite being recorded on fucking tape.

She calls them for help after she was attacked, they arrest the wrong person, they throw her in a cell, strip her naked and leave her there for six hours?

We just had an incident where a girl was arrested for refusing to sign a ticket - the cop had put down the wrong information on it - and they put her in a transport vehicle and left her there while they went to get lunch. Evidently we now live in a police state where anything short of total obedience is a crime worthy of punishment.

The stupidest thing of all is that, even if you are not convicted, and even if the arrest is expunged, that shit will follow you for decades. It's so unfair.

@whynotshesaid: sure did get off. Cuz the arresting officer apologized for getting me involved, let me get dressed, brush my teeth and hair, let me ride in the front, drove me home after i was booked and gave me a cigarette.

She was mad cuz she had bad info and took it out on me.

Lawyer explained the situation to the judge and i never even had to talk to the judge, was never called up or anything. They just said to forget about it and go home.
