Burton has a right to sell the boards and I'm pretty sure (not positive, lawyer Jezzies help me out) slopes have the right to ban them, or restrict the times you can be on a hill with them?

I for one am pro these boards, as someone above mentioned they're like a giant "I'm a huge jackass please shun me" sign. If you're stupid enough to buy one I think most people are smart enough to have contempt for you.

@remedios: Its marketing partnership between Burton and Playboy, but you are correct they sell that shit to anyone. But this promotion specifically has been worked on for about three to four years in different facets.

Silver lining: How often have we met a guy who seemed great, and several wasted dates, good hair days, & romantic daydreams later, you find out he's an raging douche? I don't necessarily find the pictures offensive, but more the catch phrases. I love old Playboy images and personally, don't find them demeaning. I do find it offensive to add a "I don't care where you stick your board" catch phrase onto a picture of a woman, who might not have agreed to this usage of her image.

Which is why ladies, you do not not sign away on your rights like that.

I'm sorry, I don't really understand the problem. What's objectifying about naked, sexual women? What's degrading? Personally I find the 60s and 70s Playboy models to be astoundingly beautiful, many of them, with the kind of bodies I wish we saw more of in "men's mags". I'm sorry, but if you look at a snowboard with a kitchy, retro image of a Playboy model on it and think about a man standing on a woman, I think it says more about your perceptions than about the manufacturer's intentions. Aren't we all liberated in our sexuality enough that the site of a naked model isn't degrading, its just...naked? How is this different than a guy in a Betty Page t-shirt? I am way more disturbed by the Vermonters mentioned above and their attitudes towards men and women, the fact that their message seems to be that men are beasts who can be driven to sexual abuse (!!) just by the sight of a nude woman, and women are shameful things that need to be hidden from the eyes of children and uncontrollable men.

@MizValentine: I am constantly reading Globe comments, getting annoyed at them and reading them to my fiancee. He has since stopped listening to me whenever I start a sentence with "On Boston.com..." The response is usually "WHY ARE YOU READING THOSE YOU ASKED FOR IT DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT WHAT THEY SAY!"

Don't they have to hide Playboy and Penthouse or at least cover them at the store, and yet they are allowed out willy nilly on snowboards? I'm not trying to be a prude but there are TONS of kids out on those slopes and they don't need to be seeing that. Also, if all those people are making those comments, isn't it kind of obvious why this is an issue. Men often DO think of women as objects to be either controlled or used. This just doesn't help that.

@MizValentine: I'm with you. I love the pics from back in the days, where the woman were naturally pretty and I don't see the problem with the pictures.

I also don't think that most of the young male population who are purchasing these boards are using this as a tool of male domination, but probably just simply think its cool. If they didn't have the stupid catch phrases on them, I might even think about it.

Sometimes making a huge deal out of these things is bringing attention to the wrong part of the message.
