What a wonderful ad. I think the message is very positive. I've used Plan B before, and while it certainly wasn't fun (hello, cramping, crazy bleeding, and horrible mood swings) it was better than, say, going through a pregnancy scare the day after a bad breakup.

It was not a pretty week.

I am so happy to live in 2009 when this kind of medicine, and that ad, exist. I am reading The Thorn Birds right now (for the hell of it) and oh my goodness, birth control AND Plan B are my heroes.

Every woman I know who has taken Plan B has taken it after a catastrophic condom failure. I would call that pretty unexpected, and I know that they were glad to have a little extra insurance at that time. I'm glad to know it's there as backup should something similar ever happen to me as well.

Ok, I know it has been said but...PLAN B IS NOT AN ABORTION. THAT IS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT PILL, NOT AVAILABLE OVER THE COUNTER. PLAN B IS THE SAME CHEMICAL IN REGULAR BIRTH CONTROL PILLS.

In one of the commercials it clearly says - "THIS IS NOT THE ABORTION PILL" and that it will not work if already pregnant and explains its a large dosage of BC.

If these conservative fucks don't stop pretending to worry about what is going in and out of my mouth, vagina and womb, Im gonna go crazy.

Again, fight for animal rights or another one of God's creatures who doesnt have a voice and get off my case.

@FattyCatty: You need a prescription (in most places) to buy Plan B, so a guy would not have a doctor prescribe it for him and thus he couldn't to the pharmacy and try to buy it.

@FattyCatty: @bas tsioyn: I know that in New Jersey, you only have to be 18 years or older to get it over-the-counter, no prescription.

Would they give it to a guy? I'm not totally sure, but I don't think there is anything technically there to stop them.

I thought this commercial was wonderful, much better than other birth control commercials that make it all out to be period control instead of, you know, birth control. Which was beautifully pointed out by Sarah Haskins and posted on Jezebel forever ago.

The first time i saw this commercial i was really mad. But reading other peoples comments I can understand the commercials good points now.

There is only thing about this commercial that still pisses me off:

They show a girl looking at apartment listings in a window with her (assumed) bf (otherwise why else would she be pointing out apartments?)

I am in this situation (in a relationship long enough that we are planning on moving in together) and i know that if i had to get plan B i would drag his ass to the pharmacy with me and make him pay half.

So why are none of these women going to the pharmacy with their significant others (or just sex partners)?

Even if i had to get plan B because of casual sex, i would surely drag my sex partners ass to the pharmacy with me and/or make him shell out 25 bucks to cover half.

I get that they should show some women going alone to say "hey we have your back, even if you think youre in this alone", but im tired of men having to bear no responsibility when it comes to BC.

So yea, i wish this commercial showed that men should have some responsibility in the matter, even if it is just paying for half.

@lex2712: it's totally a fair point about where are the men, but it's still waaayyy better than every other BC commercial out there, and often men aren't involved and women do feel scared (or feel scared even if they have a guy involved) so i felt like it spoke more to that.

@lex2712: I think the assumption in this commercial (based on other comments, as I can't get sound on the computer at work) is that the women are waking up alone, possibly suggesting it was a one-night thing, or not a regular partner. If he isn't there in the morning, it's hard to make him pay half.

But in the instance that Plan B becomes a good choice for me, you bet your ass I'll do everything I can to drag him down there and make him pay half. 25 bucks is cheaper than 18 years of child support, bud.

I suggest EVERYONE keep an extra Plan B on hand. Go out, go out right now and get one!! Because you can be sure that in a crisis, freaking-out situation you'll find the one asshole pharmacist who refuses to sell it to you or claims he's "out of Plan B a the moment, will be getting some in next week (when it's too late for you, yes this happened to me)."

This is advice from a married mom in her thirties who had birth control failure while taking meds that were dangerous should I have become pregnant and yet I was still TURNED AWAY by a pharmacist.

Ladies, go buy one while you can. Put it on your today's to-do list. Trust me. It'll keep for a year and you'll be happy for the peace of mind.

irresponsible. irresponsible is making a stupid statement like "Plan B makes it sound like you can make a mistake and have a do-over." why do these idiots have to attach a moral agenda to everything? suppose a woman is raped? i'm sure they'd have an argument against a woman using Plan B in that situation as well.

We have had this in Canada, free, for YEARS- you can get it at any walk-in clinic. (or at a pharmacy, if you pay a little for it) It seesm odd its such an issue for you in the US. Here we call it the "morning after pill",(some canadian creativity right there) and you don't have to be a certain age. I remember when i was in first-year university (1989), a nurse from student health came to our dorm to make sure we all knew it was available. We have always just taken its availability for granted however I suppose i really shouldnt given this advert, and subsequent discussion.

The best part is that the woman hops out of bed, doesn't shower, does not pass go or collect $200, she hightails it to the pharmacy. Yeah. Been there.

And honest to goodness, I know a damn near 30-year-old guy (who lives in NYC no less) who I was having a conversation with and was like, "Crap. I forgot to take my pill today." He was like, "Damn, girl. You took it yesterday. How much sex are you having?"

He thought you only take it when you have sex. Sad, sad, sad...
