ok comments are sucking too bad for this...

ForkStraw In ItHere's my brain now: read post from top to bottom, scroll to bottom of page and read comments bottom to top (and top to bottom when one comment has been replied to), and THEN consider commenting so as not to repeat anyone.
Can anyone enlighten me to the reasoning for this inversion? Is there a benefit I'm missing but will one day love??

ForkStraw In Itif my star was (inexiplicably) revoked, why do my comments still appear in the first tier?
and why am I able to approve tier 2 comments?
do my comments only appear this way to ME? or do my comments appear in the second tier, or conversely, with a star, to other commenters?
thanks!
any feedback would be awesome.

ForkStraw In ItA detail in the article about "Australia's Miss Havisham" really bothered me; she supposedly died around 1970 but had a "vinyl copy of The Last Waltz" in the cave with her. People (including me) were associating that title with The Band's famous concert... but one big problem: that record didn't come out until 1978. That really bugged. Like, how could the police not pick up on that clue?
Since my ultimate goal is to become Dr. Haledjian from "Two Minute Mysteries", I did some digging, only to learn that she was found with a recording IN FRENCH of a song entitled "The Last Waltz", aaaand, it's a really familiar tune. Engelbert Humperdinck sang it in English.
So, I didn't turn out to be an awesome sleuth.... But at least I got to write "Engelbert Humperdinck" and post it on the internet.

ForkStraw In ItBad. Bad enough that I'm just going to lay my precious star on the line to say this... I love Jez. But 99% of why I love Jez is YOU GUYS. Not some misplaced sense of camaraderie, or even the wit (uh, lying) - but really, because you take the post, and make it So.Much.More than the editor thought they were posting.
And I'm sure I'm not the only one that's noticed a definite, painful bitchiness with commenting lately. "2's" are jumping "1's" all over the place, and vice versa. And for what?
So, in my lamest LOLspeak, I haz a sad. I know I can easily ditch Jez, I've seen me do it for months at a time, but I missed it. But "it"... ain't what it used to be all of a sudden.
Sorry, Anna. I know it isn't your fault, and I hate acting as if I could do it better. I couldn't. I just hate that y'all think you could. It wasn't broke, why fix it?

I feel like it's disingenuous of us to pull the separate but equal thing here on the comments. The party line right now is that tier 2 is just as good, really! They just don't show up unless someone goes out of their way to view the comments -- unless some nice person in tier 1 decides that they're funny or interesting enough to merit showing up. You can't make a group dependent on another group for something without inherently giving the second group power over the first one. I'll say it, the tiers are not the same. I like tier 1 more. I hope I can stay in tier 1, but it kills me that for there to be a tier 1 there has to also be a tier 2. Even if it's just a perception of prestige, that's still something setting us apart as a group.
Nerdily enough, I was crushed yesterday when I realized what was going on. I was actually sad and upset. I got "promoted" this afternoon and I was really happy. I don't think it's good or right that other people have to feel that way and that we're minimizing what they're feeling. I know that the editors here can't do anything about it, and I know that at this point it's here to stay because the developers have obviously put a lot of time into it already and they won't be getting rid of it any time soon. And I know that the editors here can't say what I'm saying, because it's their jobs on the line and not just their stars. But I think that there needs to be acknowledgment at least from the commenters that tier 2 is feeling disenfranchised right now and that they have a good reason to. Those feelings are valid and tier 1 going, "oh I think this is great! Really, you're just as important!" isn't helping. They have a right to be pissed, let's be pissed for them. Minimizing won't do anything but secure an "us against them" mentality in the comments and it could fracture the community.
Like I said, I don't expect the editors to agree with me publicly or to even be able to fix this. I just hope that the other commenters understand that a large portion of our group feel as though their thoughts and opinions are no longer important. We should at least listen to them.

Yea, I just tried to reply to all of the people that replied to one of my comments and it only let me reply to one and now I feel like an asshole for "promoting" one comment and not all of them. I know that that is a ridiculous reason for me not liking the new commenting format, but...I don't like it.
It's also taking a year and a half for comments to load, if at all.
Here's to hoping the glitches get worked out soon.

ForkStraw In ItObviously there are no definite answers to anything, but I'm curious to hear thoughts about what happens after death, or how you reconcile the fact that a loved one has passed on.
