Payless??? There is no way I will ever again wear shoes from Payless. They destroyed my feet. My Achilles will never be the same. Cheap shoes are NOT worth buying.

I'm embarrassed for Christian. I thought he was "high end" and would only design great shoes and clothes. He might as well go over to QVC with Chloe and Laura.

@mslewis: Don't be embarrassed for him. If he didn't want to do this, he wouldn't. And really, Payless shoes are becoming a bit more high quality, though I never had a problem with them to begin with. Christian always struck me as someone that didn't want to have his brand accessible by only a small margin of people, and I applaud him for that.

@hannelore: He's faaaaabulous. And only 22. So yes, he has unbridled youthful energy supplemented with copious amounts of fiercosity.

And he really is fueling this career. Granted he is a lot younger than the other winners so they might have gotten lazy or been comfortable with where they were in their careers.

@Snowbunny: It seems like maybe Christian is just being more realistic about how to exploit his success. I suspect that some previous winners would have been reluctant to start with something so budget friendly right away.

@sequined: True. A lot of the previous designers designed a handful of red carpet outfits for B and C listers and then worked on their own lines and shows. Christian will design anything for anybody (most couture designers wouldn't be too into the Pussy Cat dolls) because he could take a potato and make that spud fierce.

He knows he has this talent, thus he does whatever the fuck he can.

@missbitchy: I don't always get Payless, but they're great for big-footed women like myself. I've been a little afraid Christian was going to suffer from overexposure, but this seems like a decent move.

I did not know that Payless even carried $45.00 items?? But, truthfully the only shoes I can wear from Payless without getting "crater sized blisters" are those Champion sneakers.

@angryblackgurl: Here in Canada, Payless carries shoes that cost even more than that.

Payless is strange. Sometimes the shoes are ill-fitting and ill-lasting, and sometimes you get shoes like the pair of black dress flats I got there in 2004 which are still in excellent condition and classic enough to not be dated.

@hannelore: Yeah, they're so hit or miss. About six years ago I got a pair of casual white low heels that I have worn to weddings, graduations, and around town ever since and they're still fairly classic looking and in great shape. On the other hand, I also have hellish trash from there.

Not worth it. I bought a pair of flats at payless last spring from one of the other cheapy designer lines, and they absolutely DESTROYED my feet. Every single time I wore them. It is really hard to "break in" plastic shoes.

@LaFemme: I can't wear many of their flats, but they've been doing a bunch of serviceable (faux?)leather heels (I have mary janes and like..4 different styles of black ankle boots) lately that fit like a glove and break-in well

@LaFemme: I don't even look at cheap shoes with my fucked up feet, but I'm excited to buy a CS purse and walk around like I'm on a runway all the time...posing at corners and such. Should be a $25-$45 good time.
