E! Tries To Take The High Road By Blurring Out Vibrators

Last night on Denise Richards: It's Complicated, Denise's girlfriends surprised her with a Passion Party (one of those in-home sex toy demonstration/sales parties). The sales woman, oddly enough, looks just like my Aunt Joanie, who, BTW, makes a living doing in-home candle sales parties for a company called Party Lites. But that personal creepiness aside, what struck me most about this whole thing is that they blurred out some of the more "offensive" sex toys, probably the ones that look most like penises. Why is it that E! will willingly show Kim Kardashian's bare ass, but not an inanimate object? Also, I watch E! all the time, and have seen plenty of dicks on there, namely, Ryan Seacrest.

It's Called "Work" For A Reason

My brother is only 16, but he is very wise. Recently, upon hearing a grown-up-type person bitch up her job, he replied, "Well, it's called 'work' for a reason." At this moment I said a little prayer of thanks that my parents had imparted to the kid that, in life, you have to work hard, and working hard isn't always sexy. This sort of sentiment, however, is absent among many of the Gen Y-ers currently entering the workforce, claims Lisa Belkin in today's New York Times. The kids nowadays are all worried about "passion" and "life mapping," and less concerned with, oh, putting in the hours and being the best damn alphabetizer/stapler/photocopy-er they can be. Says Daniel Pink, (whose book The Adventures of Johnny Burko is supposed to teach young adults that hard work is a good thing): "This generation has been spoon-fed self-esteem cereal for the past 22 years. They've been told it's all about them — what they want, what they are passionate about, what they find fulfilling. That's not a bad message, but it's also not a complete message." More »

If you're interested in history and sex, the documentary Power & Passion: The Technology of Orgasm is right up your alley. Currently showing at the Mill Valley film festival but also available on DVD, Variety describes Power & Passion as "hard to resist for non-prudes." The film discusses the history of the vibrator, the popularity of "passion parties" (Tupperware meets sex toys), and the emergence of women's erotica stores. According to Variety, the most poignant moments come "when women confess how they were misled by shaming, downright wrong popular wisdoms about female sexuality." Masturbating non-prudes take note! Shuttin' Down The Sperm Bakery

We've been obsessing over how best to approach this story and we've decided the only method is to just let it speak for itself. The BBC is reporting that a young Briton named Amanda Monti was apparently so angry after a former lover rejected her advances at a party that she pulled off one of his testicles. Like us, we're sure you have a few questions. And thanks to a bang-up job on the part of the BBC, we have some answers! More »
