    I am not a professional photographer like Christina Kruse, but a keen amateur. However, like her, I taught myself how to take digital images by concentrating on the only convenient subject available -myself. I then taught myself how to use software to play around with images. As a result I have had a lot of requests from friends to morph them or their relatives into other things such as morphing an african woman into the celebrated bust of Nefertiti, a friend into Botticelli's Venus rising from the sea and a small boy into a dodo as he was crazy about them. I actually thought the latter images were somewhat unsettling but he still has them hanging on his bedroom walls several years later.

    @AtomiClash: See, I don't know where the line is on this. Because high fashion prides itself on being the invisible hand of the fashion market. Alexander Wang shows fringed booties (vomit) and then fringe becomes a trend. Obviously the vast majority of people won't be buying Wang's shoe, so where does influence stop and stealing begin?

    Ok, see, now the use of "maggot" and especially that line about cougars? Makes me want to wear fur just to piss PETA off.


    Also, someone on Jezebel once LITERALLY had food thrown at her when she showed up for a potluck -- which, unbeknownst to her, was vegetarian -- with chicken wings. I seem to recall PETA was somehow involved here, too.


    Bottom line: This is not a way to win converts. It's a way to make the already converted feel smug.

    @ellaesther: As a vegetarian who loves potlucks (and hates PETA) I apologize and welcome over to my house any time for Boca Burgers, chicken wings and Arrested Development DVD's. I can only hope this first step will help to bridge the divide.

    @Fate'sBitch (katieb): I will accept most gladly, and I would personally rather have the Boca! Quite literally, some of my best friends are vegetarians. One of them is a vegetarian farmer! And I am very veg-friendly (as one of them calls me), really see no point in fur, and actively seek out non-animal testing companies.


    That's the thing that kills me about PETA -- I am, I think, their audience, because if anyone could be swayed to take one more step, it would be someone like me. Right? But no. They just piss me off! Public Relations - UR doin it rong. (PETA, not U. Of course).

    @ellaesther: That's awful! As a vegan, I HATE that kind of behavior- it gives all of us a bad name. Please, anonymous-Jez-who-had-food-thrown-at-you, PLEASE know that that person was just an asshole, not a representative veg!

    I mean, I once learned after a omni BBQ that some dude thought it was hysterical to spend the day pouring meat juices all over the veggie burgers. Assholes can be of any denomination.


    And yeah, PETA is not helping with those comments. I'm super disappointed in them and am coming around to the general consensus on this site, that they really need to STFU. *sigh*


    (PS. My husband is an omni and in my experience most vegans/ veggies are rational people who have their own beliefs and welcome rational conversation and other opinions.)

    @lilbobbytables: I've never browsed their website until now. It's pretty ridiculous. They basically say that not being a vegetarian or wearing fur is the same as wanting to enslave black people or beat women.

    @victoriasauce: THIS. this is my beef with PETA. are they drawing attention to their cause? yes. is it favorable attention? hell to the no. if anything, they're furthering the stereotypes that vegans and vegetarians are weirdos and that animal rights activists are all misanthropic nutjobs.


    i think animal rights is a wonderful and worthy cause. THIS is why i cannot support PETA.
