Former French president Jacques Chirac's Vietnamese-born adopted daughter Ahn Dao Traxel (C) walks with buddhists monks and nuns on December 18, 2009 in Paris, before submiting at the Elysee palace, French President Nicolas Sarkozy's official residence, a formal request for temporary asylum in France for 400 monks and nuns. The followers of a Buddhist group banned in communist Vietnam asked for asylum in France, where their leader is based, claiming that they face persecution at home. Sarkozy was himself away at the UN climate conference in Copenhagen, but movement spokesman Phap Linh said that his office had accepted the letter, adding that the request would be temporary as 'we are convinced that the regime will change.' <![CDATA['How Can He Ruin So Many Hours Of My Young Life": Artists' Kids Were Ungrateful Muses]]> Being a model is often part of the job description for an artist's child. Now, they get their say:

A fascinating-sounding exhibition, "Child Models — from Claude Renoir to Pierre Arditi," has opened at Paris' Orangerie. It's devoted, not to Baby Gap cherubs, but rather the subjects of 100 paintings and sculptures, very often of an artist's own children. Here, we can hear the surviving children's impressions of the experience (via documentary), see photographs of the families juxtaposed against famous images, learn what became of people whom we know only as iconic youngsters, and in general learn about the perspective of this most unique group of muses.

The range of memories and impressions, as related by the Wall Street Journal, is fascinating:

Claire Denis, one of Maurice Denis's grandchildren, explains that "as a model you feel completely loved and chosen for who you are," whereas Olivier Brayer, son of artist Yves, says, "It wasn't fun for a child to stay still for several hours and try to find a pose which was relatively comfortable." His complaint is echoed by others...Other models have happier memories. Pierre-Auguste Renoir often painted his family, and the exhibition features portraits of his youngest son, Claude. Another son, Jean, the film director, also posed for his father. In a book about Renoir he wrote, "When I was very little, three, four or five, he never chose the pose himself but took advantage of my doing something which seemed to keep me quiet," such as when Jean was eating soup or playing with toy soldiers. When his father wanted him to stay still longer, he recited stories, such as Hans Christian Andersen's "The Steadfast Tin Soldier."

Others, like Vuillard, used friends' children, for a wholly different experience. And Picasso's children - depending upon his age and relationship with their mothers - all had different impressions of the artist who immortalized them. (There's also no word of what, say, his young daughter Maya made of his rather abstract interpretations.)

<![CDATA[Rachel Zoe's (Mostly Inaccurate) Overuse Of "Literally"]]> On last night's Rachel Zoe Project, the team (minus Taylor) went to Paris fashion week, where Rachel "literally" felt like dying and "literally" felt like "a cow about to moo." She also went shopping (duh) and toured Coco Chanel's apartment.

Rachel said that getting to visit Coco Chanel's apartment was a career highlight for her.

Rachel and Brad went shopping at Didier Ludot, the most renowned vintage shop in all of Paris (literally!). I went there this past summer looking for a wedding dress, and I had a Pretty Woman moment there. But not like in the way that my John was buying me everything that I wanted. More like, I was (literally!) told that they didn't have anything in my size and they couldn't help me. The lady working there was wearing her body weight in Chanel chains and was totally rude, even though I had my French Canadian fiancé translating for me, which I thought would win me favor somehow. The woman was about 75 if she was a day—with so much black eyeliner and white powder on that she looked all Kabuki—and she had no patience for a sweaty, disheveled Yank in jeans and a T-shirt. I (literally!) told her, "Look, I have money to spend in here." She didn't care.

<![CDATA[Gaultier Couture: Hollywood Glamour Gals & Sci-Fi Sorceresses]]> Jean-Paul Gaultier never had formal training as a designer, but rose to fame creating whimsical and theatrical confections: Madonna's cone bra; the costumes for Luc Besson's The Fifth Element. His collection shown in Paris today was playful, retro and glam.

Where does one go in sequined overalls and a mink? And when one arrives, can one sit down without ruining ones ensemble?

So many dead animaux, so little pretty.

Think this coat is all about strong shoulders? You may have a point.

Beautifully cut, with art deco details — an opaque version would be heavenly.

Are the hair and the thigh-bands a nod to Leeloo? Also — pay close attention to those gloves, which are clear on the inside of the arm and velvety on the outside.

The man knows drama; this coat is a spectacle.

This gown would be at home on the set of Serenity or on any inter-galactic red carpet.

If you like your silver screen goddess looks straight up, no chaser, this is it. Maybe not the most inventive dress, but stunning as it channels the '30s.

Here's where the "whimsy"comes in — those are film strips on her bodice.

Someone's been watching a lot of old movies.

What is this? Part Chrysler building, part Airstream trailer, part Pontiac Silver Streak, this (swimsuit? leotard? playsuit?) has Lady GaGa's name on it.

Attitude not included.

More steam-age meets space age. The structure is reminiscent of Thierry Mugler's motorcycle or Metropolis bustiers. But softer, with bling-shaped hips and shoulders.

Even if you wouldn't wear any of this, it's hard not to appreciate the fact that there is capital D Drama in every detail.

The silhouette here is very similar to that of the Diva Plavalaguna.

The Diva would not have worn a baby-doll dress with plastic platform shoes, though, would she? Luckily, in space no one can hear you scream.

<![CDATA[Ingrid Sischy and Sandra Brant To Become Vogue Editors]]> The trials and tribulations of Interview magazine might be ongoing — but the careers of creative team/romantic partners Ingrid Sischy and Sandra Brant, who left the magazine in early 2008, continue on the ascendant.

Sischy and Brant, who spent 18 and 23 years with Interview, respectively, struck out for other pastures at Condé Nast last year, becoming international editors at Italian Vanity Fair and Spanish Vanity Fair. Now, according to a press release for Condé Nast, they are taking on the same positions at German Vogue and Russian Vogue.

Fabien Baron, who replaced Sischy as co-editorial director of Interview (along with Glenn O'Brien), was pushed out of his position after less than a year at the magazine. Baron, an accomplished fashion photographer in his own right, and creative director Karl Templer had revamped Interview and focused on better photography and more fashion content. The April issue is the first Interview produced under the leadership of the creative team M/M Paris, who put teen star Zac Efron on the cover.
