I need Jezzie backup. My family has been ripping on Obama all day and it is getting very hard to keep my mouth shut. I cannot leave because it is the grandfathers b-day.
(It should be noted; nothing bad to say about Biden)
@Bunny_of_doom: aw that's not nice...my family has always voted Republican, but my dad still emailed me after Obama's speech saying how good it was and hoping that he can fix our shit (I'm paraphrasing)
@CollegeCamel: That sounds nice. I did request that they respect our president by keeping the snippy comments to a minimum, I kept my mouth shut, they could at least indulge me and keep theirs shut for a few hours.
@Bunny_of_doom: I had an entire MS class of 7th and 8th graders today and we listened to Obama's speech. I am proud to say my group of students were spellbound. One said "When we're old we'll remember Obama like you remember King".
Unlike my group an hour later, who were completely disrespectful and had no idea how important today was in the history of their country.
Where is there good parade coverage. MSNBC are just talking over the bands and just showing shots of the First Family, which is great, but I do want to see the bands.
Is it weird that I almost like Joe Biden more than Barack Obama? I think his choking up during the VP debates and then the recent picture of him holding a German shepherd puppy that got circulated quite a bit sealed the deal for me.
Nitpicky band geek thing: how much must it suck for the poor colorguard girls (and guys)? It's just a tad bit windy, and trying to do a flag routine in wind is NOT fun. But how psyched must they feel to be there?
@pandorasmittens: As a former band geek, drum corps geek, colourguard and brass instructor geek, and just general geek...I knoooooooow. Those poor kids.
I'm hoping the excitement makes it all worth it--I know it always did for me, when my HS band got to do important parades and events.
@pandorasmittens: This is the point at which the director really wants a ciggy and drink. It is exciting, but everyone is miserable and you just know there are going to be clams, dropped sticks and poles hitting pavement.
Why yes, I am a director. And I totally love the fact I'm watching this in my warm house in front of the teevee. We have several friends in the Marine band who are freezing their asses off today and Mr. G's horn player from his brass quintet has his band there. He did say he would rather have a root canal than march that route in this cold.
Here is "take two" of my minis little "YES, WE CAN!" photo. I wanted one where they actually had their hair brushed and both of them wearing clothes, so they can print it out and use it for their "reports"--to have this absence counted as "excused", their teachers assigned them to write about their experiences today, their impressions of the ceremonies, and so on.
(I would have had them do that anyway, 'cos I'm THAT kind of mom--everything's a learning experience!--but I'm glad they can take today as an excused absence now.)
I'm having trouble imagining how hot and bothered Keith Olberman is right now. In other news, I audibly gasped when I saw the crazy number of police on motorcycles in front of the motorcade.

Also - wouldn't you pay to know what they were saying in the limo when they warmed up?
