Angelina Jolie, "Scary Smart" Media Mastermind
Drowning In Catalogs? Some Retailers Don't Give A Damn

I've said this before and been criticized for it, but I just can't respect people who sell photos of their children. You can try to justify it by saying you donate it to charity, but you can donate to charity without selling photos of your newborns, so I dont see the point.

And if celebs (of her stature, not all of them) don't sell pics of their kids, nutso photographer #6 will certainly climb the fence into their yard to try to get them. So taking control of the situation is smart to me.
Of course there are celebs that just want / need the attention, and keep the money, and that's gross. Larry Burkhart selling pictures of his daughter: gross. Brad and Angelina selling pictures of their kids and giving the money to a charity (usually in the kid's name): doesn't offend me.

Celebrities are able to not sell photos of their kids. See: Halle Berry and Gwen Stefani. It doesn't make the paprazzi situation go away, but neither does selling your kids' photos.
I'm sorry. I just find it gross.

sleeping with married men isn't smart. she may have ended up with the man, she may give away millions to charity, she may plan photo ops where she can be seen as being so awesome and sweet, but any smart woman sees a pic of her and says "yep! she stole jennifer aniston's husband". of course it takes two to tango, but she lost in the court of public opinion and no amount of propaganda stating otherwise will change my mind about her.
oh, and she hooked up with billy bob after he was engaged for at least a year to laura dern. she's committed a lot of girl-on-girl crime.

My positive comments about Angelina have less to do with who she is as a person and more about how she has handled the media exposure of both the good and bad things she's done.

I do think it's lame to hit on married guys--it's kind of a sleazy thing to do, and Jolie certainly wasn't blameless. However, I tend to think more along the lines of "Wow, Brad Pitt must be kind of an asshole too."

I am sappy and believe in instant chemistry and love at first sight and all that. And I believe that those things can be sparked whether one of the people is already emotionally engaged with someone else.
Getting into and out of relationships are messy. There are lots of entanglements and emotions that take time to get sorted out. The tabloids can try to make it as one-dimensional as they want, but it just isn't.
I also don't think Brangelina are guaranteed to be together forever because that just seems to be how they approach relationshiops in general but it doesn't make their current feelings invalid.

i understand instant chemistry and all that, but be an adult about it. do the right thing and don't flaunt it in front of people. they could have just as easily kept everything really quiet, but they didn't. if she's that savvy with the media, she had to realize that.

Wouldn't that be great? I'll be your publicist, Angelina.

I secretly like to think that celebrities, especially high-profile, insanely-wealthy, conventionally-attractive ones like Jolie, are only famous and wealthy and attractive because of a stroke of luck. They don't have any personal merits that got them there--none that I don't have, anyway.
She was born with conventionally attractive features; she ended up in the right places at the right times, got ridiculously wealthy. She's not any smarter or better or more worthwhile than I am. Right? Right? In fact, a lot of insanely wealthy celebs seem to be pretty boneheaded. Right?
I think this is my secret guilty way of making myself feel better for working in an industry that's in shambles and barely able to pay my rent in my tiny shoddy apartment and being buried in student loan debt.

If your last name were Trump, your industry would still be in shambles, but you would be standing atop the rubble laughing.

You can have talent and not get opportunity. My own personal opinion of Angelina here is that she has marginal talent and ample opportunity.
I don't dislike/like her. I feel almost nothing for her. But I dislike her getting shoved in our faces all the time. She's part of that shoving, too, it seems.

Then I checked and what do you know? A lawyer, a manager; fin.
To you, Madame Jolie, I tip my hat.

Hmmm, but do we really know the depth of why she's so mad at him? There could be a lot there that we aren't aware of; he seems quite the ass, indeed. Her reaction to him seems to be summable in a big ol' eyeroll.
Heh, somehow I seem to be defending her quite a bit today! Unexpected. (Not to suggest you were attacking her, as you weren't!)

I'm not attached to Angelina as either a person or an actress, particularly, but I do have respect for her smarts and this very manipulation.
I think the press can be snarky about her because, truly, she is in control here. And while I'm not impressed with her ending up with Pitt before he was done with Aniston, I place that firmly on Mr. Pitt's shoulders - he was the taken one. And, also, I can't say that Ms. Aniston has shown the depth of character that Jolie has. Which one is more fascinating? I'd go Angelina any day.
11/21/08
I'm with you on this. As a married woman I can say honestly that I wouldn't be crazy about a person if she stole my husband, but really the only people who owe anything to a marriage are the two people in it. Even if Jolie went after Pitt while he was married, he was the only one who was supposed to be committed to someone else. The blame is pretty much all his in my opinion. And you and georgina are both right--it just makes good send to control your own image.
11/21/08
Great way to put it! Who knows what was going on with those two before he bounded off to film Mr. & Mrs. Smith... we'll never know the real details, probably.
I actually increasingly get the sense Jolie could take Pitt in a game of Trivial Pursuit, easily. (And he'd LIKE it!)
