I feel sorry for Asia. I think she feels abandoned and alone. She's a good kid, and she means well.

@lobstr: It made me cringe how close to the real thing that satire was. The fetus pageant was the best thing!

Ok so shoot me, while I will say I'm glad that isn't something I got involved in, I don't hate Asia at all. Brooke seemed awesome, but Asia didn't seem as dumb as people want to think. Does she care that Julie Brown's song is satirical? I doubt it. I imagine she knows it, but doesn't care.

It seems to me that she is less a cash cow for grandma than a girl trying to hold on to something she is good at and she enjoyed with her family after her family has ripped apart. I don't agree with what she does but I don't think her reasons are bad.

"Painted Babies-released in 1995, not too long before the death of Jon Benét Ramsey - was an eye-opening documentary that peaked my interest in the surreal subculture of child beauty pageants."

Sorry, Tracie, I can't help myself...it's piqued, not peaked. Now I feel like a bad person.

I'm glad you guys posted about this. Because it came on a couple weeks back and I had it on our DVR, and the boyfriends ran across it and said "Painted Babies at 17" in that way that totally comes off as "Really? You watch this crap?"... Now I'm happy I'm not so odd after all. ;)

And yeah... Asia cannot sing for crap. Couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. I also LOVE how they had the footage of her in her grandma's kitchen, then cut to the modern-day film, and the kitchen and grandma were EXACTLY THE SAME! Love it.

@wednesdayam: Heh, Boyfriend has that reaction with a LOT of stuff I DVR. Although he has learned that when I'm watching "The Girls Next Door," he has a free pass to watch Playmates on TV, so he's alright with it now *laugh*
