As someone with NON-undiagnosed ADHD, I just got to stand up and say, ADHD is NOT "asshole disease." Nor is it madness without method... we think differently, but we still THINK. An ADD diagnosis means you need to spend MORE time figuring out your kid, not LESS.
Also, denying your child proper medical care counts as neglect. People like to joke about hyperactive kids by saying that they're "ADHD," like it's a personality trait. It's NOT. It's a real, honest-to-God cognitive disorder, and it can ruin lives.
Am I the only one that thought Cassidy's mom seemed kind of... happy that C didn't win? The way she grins at her in the clip and talks about how she was banking on her daughter losing kind of seals the deal for me.
Oh, and god bless future Chief Justice Sparkal Queenz.
@prestocaro fears the culling: The mom should've stuck with the name Brooklyn like she mentioned in the clip...at least it doesn't bring to mind images of glitter, and can be truncated to either Brook or Lynn, two common and normal names.
Awwww, Cassidy's Mom, please let her join a softball team or something. I see "slugger" written all over her. ADHD my butt - she just needs something to whack at to get her frustrations out. The balloon never had a chance.
I want to start a fan club for Pirate Dad. He clearly loves his daughter, and they actually enjoyed their pageant experience. Plus he has such a sweet, loopy smile. I am thinking he might have his own herbal supplements going on.
The scary thing about Cassidy's "not a welfare" mom, is that about 10 years ago she was involved in another documentary on beauty pageants with her older daughter. The doc was called "Baby Beauty Queens" and it aired on A&E. You may remember her daughter Jenny Foster, who had cystic fibrosis and died of it at the age of 15, shortly after the documentary aired.
@I Will Not Stop Feeding My Fat Baby: OMG I instantly recognized her from that documentary and wondered if she was going to mention her deceased daughter in last night's show.
@I Will Not Stop Feeding My Fat Baby: Wow...that was not a lot of positive reinforcement for that girl. And she had so little time left and this was how she spent it...
I guess this might explain why she seems...unhinged now...
@I Will Not Stop Feeding My Fat Baby:
Let me get this straight. "Not a Welfare Mom" would rather spend money on pageants than medical bills. This is the same mother that had another daughter with cystic fibrosis and participated in pageants. This daughter died. Now she has another daughter and she's forcing her to do pageants. The forced to do pageants daughter has "undiagnosed ADHD" which she treats with herbal supplements instead of taking her to a therapist and psychiatrist.
Am I the only one that sees all sorts of wrong here?
Could Not a Welfare Mom have spent her pageant money on poor Jenny to maybe extend her life? I couldn't watch the entire clip, but I'm fairly sure that was Not a Welfare Mom yelling at Jenny to start over and do it again. I don't know how much Jenny enjoyed pageants, but way to make the last few years of her too short life a living hell. Being yelled at that you aren't doing something right and you need to do it again can't be very enjoyable...
Then she turns around and forces little sister to fill big sister's shoes? Looks like she is using Cassidy to make money and pay for Jenny's medical bills. I know, I know, I could be terribly wrong here.
Maybe I'm just very mad and I can't reason well at the moment.
@GazpachoKitty: I know. It's the "replacement child" vibe I'm getting that I'm worried about. I think the older daughter did like pageants, but Cassidy clearly does not.
@I Will Not Stop Feeding My Fat Baby: I got the same vibe - Jenny (the older daughter) seemed in-control and excited about the competitions. I wonder how much that contributes now to the mother's disregard of the younger daughter's complaints.
I have to be honest, it scares me that that woman is allowed to be a mom. Forcing your kid to do pageants, not paying medical bills, using herbal supplements... I will never understand why society believes having kids are a right and not a privilege.
@Elaken: Herbal supplements in and of themselves are not bad. Giving herbal supplements to your child without a doctor's advice is a problem. A lot of herbal supplements do have safety and efficacy research that has been performed in other countries, particularly Germany, where these treatments are more common. Of course, I'm guessing this mother has not looked into such research.
@Elaken: Agreed. I know so many people who make wonderful, loving parents yet they were unable to conceive. The adoption process was torturous, but they found it completely worth it. They are just so elated to even have a child that they would never dream of exploiting and/or taking the child for granted. Making the child participate in something that is clearly meant to benefit the parent's ego rather than the child's sense of self-worth is out of the question.
@Ailatan: I was just going to comment on this... Referring to the, "do you judge people on their first name?" thread, I will confess this is one that blows it out of the park for me in its stupidity.
EVEN BETTER. Did you hear the last name? QUEENS. And the other name the mother was considering was Brooklyn. So little Sparkal could have been Brooklyn Queens.
