    Women see men with a wide range of features in advertisements, on tv, and in the news.


    There are far fewer non-thin, non-seductive women in the media then there are men. If you were raised eating vanilla pudding every day you'd probably have narrower tastes than if you were raised to cope with a smorgasbord.

    @purpleshoes reminds everyone to take typing breaks and stre...: this is similar to what i was thinking: that men are socialized to prefer thin, "seductive" women because that is what society has taught them to value. having a partner who looks like that reflects better on them, because all the "successful" women in the media are, what do you know!, thin.

    True, and there are plenty of us (men) whose personalities are nothing more than collections of our socialized influences.


    But also there are plenty of us who make up our own minds instead. And I've always believed that the more-suggestible types are easy for women to identify and avoid. Yet these easily-influenced men seem to be a continual bane of women's existences. They must be harder to steer clear of than I thought.

    I'd really like to see some hard stats on how much circumcision reduces HIV transmission. If an adult wants to get circumcised, I'm all for it. But I am extremely uncomfortable with the idea of removing a part of a baby's body without his consent just because there is a tiny fraction of a percent chance that it could make him sick someday.

    And the new Miss Georgia is entering UGA Law School in the Fall. Georgia: we've got relatively non-terrible beauty queens! That are real people!


    I feel like that's kind of a win for Georgia girls. That, and Melanie Oudin's performance at Wimbledon this year.

    An ovary transplant would mean that whichever children you have after that would have the genes of the ovary donor. At least I think so, I don't see how it would mean anything different. I'm also concerned about transplants and the need to take immunosuppressants...and how safe (or rather, unsafe) that would make a pregnancy.

    @Mafalda para Presidente: I believe they recently found that the ovaries actually produce new eggs as time goes by. So the ovaries are apparently a factory, instead of just a housing unit.

    @Dances with Peeps: Same difference. The ovum are still produced from cells within the ovaries. If the cells of the ovary are foreign (belong to the donor), then the genetic material of the ova will be that of the donor's.

    @Dances with Peeps: Most likely none when it comes to the genetic characteristics of it. The only effect the recipent would have on those ova is incubating them and providing her own uterine environment...sort of like a surrogate mother who was impregnated with another woman's eggs.

    "The age of the participants also played a role in attractiveness ratings. Older participants were more likely to find people attractive if they were smiling."


    This just makes me so happy, despite the fact that I am far from being considered an 'older participant' of anything. Anything that talks about smiling makes me smile. Especially when talking about older people smiling. Or puppies, puppies are good, too.
