@mondon: it's so crazy, i live in london and have been here for many years... plus i go to Topshop oxford street basically every few days (i like pain) ... on april 1st im going to new york for the first time so i will be able to actually see this new topshop... im going to compare and make notes.
@bleedingmouths: Check if they have the Freedom jewellery line. My sister works for their parent company and I'm curious if they're shipping their stuff (some of the best-selling stuff in TopShop) or if Phillip Green is only taking the TopShop core.
I was surprised how much of their Oxford Street store was Concessions too...
@aisuru113: You find me a brick-and-mortar store that carries my size, and not just granny-velcro or Payless plastic/hooker plastic/Avenue plastic crap, and I will be one GIGANTIC happy camper.
I was once rejected whilst trying to pick up a British boy with his saying "I only date the kind of girls that shop at Topshop, so you're not really my type."
I found it a little baffling, but maybe that's what he was going for.
Karl Lagerfield always makes me feel ashamed, as if he caught me doing something naughty. I think it probably has to do with my utter inability to look fierce or not like a five year old at any give time. Also, I was just fingerpainting on his office walls.
@lilbobbytables: he scares me a little. he's always in black, he's got the white hair in a dracula pompadour, and he might have the ability to turn one to stone by looking at them. maybe that's why he always wears dark glasses? i don't know.
@everydaybrogues: they do ship to canada! but sometimes canadian customs tack on loads of taxes so its a tiny bit risky! Well, not risky if you dont mind paying taxes twice over!
@DutchessOfDork: We appear to have been reading the same kind of books recently. I purse my lips up at modern good time gals but avidly read about the mistresses of Kings in the past with nary a tut tut.
Madame de Pomadour may have stopped being the King's mistress through ill-health but she remained both his friend and his procuress until her own early death.
@tscheese: Yes, I just went on their webpage and they are a little expensive. A $100 dress, no thanks. I once bought 4 sweaters at H & M got that amount.
@tscheese: When I was in London my bestie wanted to go to TopShop so bad and when we got there it was closed because of a threat of a bomb (someone was smoking in the lav, but it was right after the subway bombings) we went there the next day and I was completely meh. about it, but it was the craziest store I have ever been to in my life. I thought girls were just going to start taking off there clothes to try clothes on instead of wait in line.
@rosasparks looks like a Fraggle: I am daydreaming right now about the customised vintage clutches I saw recently in one of their bigger shops. I'm about thirty seconds away from stroking the air and crooning presssssshhhhhhious.
@Eeva: I will concur with others about the lack of understanding the clothes sizing (UK clothes' sizes confound me, even moreso than US sizing, which is also a clusterfuck), but I have had good experiences finding clothes that fit my bod. And not to mention, I LOVE all the bags. They are FAB.
I am VERY short and VERY curvy, but have managed to get some CUTE stuff. rosasparks LOVES TopShop.
@Eeva: @rosasparks looks like a Fraggle: They do have really good shoes and you get the occasional gem of clothing, but it's very overpriced and the quality isn't great. But then maybe I'm just being contrary, as I'm sick of it being rammed down my throat constantly by the British fashion press as "OMG, the best thing EVER!!! !" I have similar reactions to Kate Moss' dress sense, the East End of London and Luella Bartley.
@BiteMeMitchell!: haha, me too. I will click your heart for this declaration. Although I just bought a cute Luella jacket so I will kind of opt out of the Luella hate. Topshop quality is totally shoddy, the amount of gorgeous £50 shoes I've bought there in the spirit of hope.. that have immediately have bits fall off them. Same with Office though. I don't always mind Topshop prices, but... yeah, quality, not always so hot.
@bleedingmouths: I have a pair of topshop wedge sandals I bought about five years ago that are still going strong, but the flat sandals I got last year? Died.
Fred Perry and Ben Sherman were some of the brands that were synonymous with football casuals and hooliganism in Britain in the 70s and 80s, as well as (and more notoriously) the Skinhead groups, some of which had neo-Nazi leaning. The Neo-Nazi groups of Germany et al seem to go for that aesthetic still, so I'm really not surprised at all.
Bum rap for Perry, since I love their retro lines.
A pair of acid-washed jeans once jumped me in a dark alley and took my lunch money. Then it kicked some petunias and gave a puppy a nasty stare. Hasn't everyone had some horrible run in with acid-wash jeans?
@tscheese: Nonono! My acid wash jeans are LOVE! I like to pair them with fancy blazers and pretty shoes and confuse the hell out of everyone. Confuse. Not torture puppies, give Indian sunburns, or assasinate world leaders. You shall not insult that which provides hilarity in my otherwise banal existence.

Louise O'Murphy was a temporary fling that was from Parc Aux Cerfs (essentially a brothel) set up by Pompadour.
