What do you mean "they're no good in cold weather"? Tell that to my feet. There's an inch of ice on the ground in Berlin right now, and the faux Uggs (which only come out in this weather) are stopping my toes dropping off. They also provide some grip. It's scary out.

Oh, and I have big feet and hardly anyone make suitable, purty boots in my size, so poo.

I have another one of their (Uggs) styles and they're great hiking boots with support, a zipper, an actual heel and nommy nommy fleece.

For Ugg-lovers: I recommend highly the Merrell Yeti - suede, fleece lined with a non-slip sole and arch support. And they're not as expensive.

Yeah erm... I asked my sis if I could borrow a pair of hers for my trip to DC and she was all "go buy your own!" then she told me all excited "the outles has them on sale for $160!!!". Erm... Wha? The she added, "save your money... They're not even warm.". So... Why look like an abominale snow beast if they aren't even warm!?!?!

Is it just me, or does the type who owns Uggs seem to only wear Uggs and incredibly uncomfortable-looking heels? You know, Uggs with their sweatpants and stiletto boots with their jeans. Nothing in between.

@pistachioRX: I know this isn't ALL Ugg wearers, of course, but I've noticed this in some of my peers here in NYC. If they're not in four-inch heels, they're sliding into their Uggs and ROARING about how COMFORTABLE they ARE.

I'm like..."if you wore normal shoes sometimes, you'd see that your Uggs actually aren't all that, but I'm just a dork with congenital foot problems and all I can wear are sturdy gunboats with orthotics anyway, so what the fuck would I know about having to go to the podiatrist?"

I love Uggs about as much as I love Crocs, which is not-at-all-I'd-rather-die-than-have-them-touch-my-feet intense.

I am, however, considering a real winter boot. We've had 14 inches of show IN THE PAST 3 DAYS here in Lower Crapovia, with 6" and high winds expected for tonight and "significant snow" (whatever the hell that is) for tomorrow night. My commute this morning sucked ass and my dress booties were soaked through before I even had left my driveway.

As much as I hatehatehate the thought of it, if Ugg makes a waterproof, snow-worthy version that would keep my feet dry as well as make them feel like they were cased in a cocoon of cozy fluff, then I'll suck it up and buy a pair.

My mom just bought a pair of Uggs. Now I'm not hating on my mom, but this is the same woman who once sported those big puffy Reebok things and wore them well into the late nineties. That should tell you just about everything you need to know about their trendiness.

I used to hate the Ugg craze, and then I got a pair. The things are so damn warm and comfy that I refuse to speak badly about them. Some people have voiced concerns that they smell...the simple solution to keeping them smell-free and dry is uh...to not wear them in the rain. And wear socks (they tell you not to, but I do it anyway and nobody died, sue me). When it's raining/slushy snow, wear some wellies/golashes. But when it's 15 degrees out with a wind chill of -5 and I need to walk 20 blocks to class? I'm wearing my Uggs and I don't give half a shit what anyone thinks.

@Twilly: Well that is rather foolish of them; wearing them in wet conditions is the best way to destroy them. But I've had mine for over a year and I don't wear them when it's wet out (and with socks), and the things are in almost perfect shape and don't smell one bit.

Oh, and do you know what's even worse than an Ugg store? Those awful Croc stores. They have pink crocs, green crocs, felted crocs, boot crocs, sandal crocs...I've never seen so much ugly all in one place, not in my entire life.
