<![CDATA[GQ Man Of The Year: Levi & Sequins & Thighs, Oh My]]> The 14th annual GQ Men of the Year Party at LA's Chateau Marmont had Levi Johnston. It had Kim Kardashian. It had January Jones and Gabrielle Union and Olivia Wilde and Zoe Saldana. And yes, it was surreal:

But, man, can January Jones work a red carpet. Love the hit of 60s polish with totally modern styling.

Jennifer Carpenter. Strapless. What more is there to say?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler. Strapless. But this time we can say, "booties."

And when it comes to Shenae Grimes? "Necklace."
Maggie Grace's dainty little retro number has a decided "Anthropologie" vibe. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

When I did a scroll-up of Amanda Seyfried my thoughts went something like, "cute, shorts! Stevie Nicks' Belladonna! Pumpkin muffin!" (That just happened to be in my head though.)

Gabrielle Union is basically saying, no, this is how you do LBD!

Someone had to fill the disco-ball-mini quota, and Danielle Panabaker took one for the team.

Can't take my eyes off the arrows on Zoe Saldana's frock. "Spleen here!"

Olivia Wilde often fails the beatific palette. Digging with the sharp futuristic-trophy-wife angles!

All I can say is, having attempted to drape a toga, Emma Stone's isn't too bad! It's hard!

Rose McGowan: sweet, simple and pretty.

See, this front-gather trend is one that will never make it to reality - at least that portion of it with breasts. But what say you about Jamie King's red carpet iteration?

Like Alice Eve, I enjoy convent-ready eveningwear.

Jessica Stroup refuses to choose between statement pieces: she shall have the gold short-shorts and the mesh booties!

Trench dresses always scream "flasher." But as Marley Shelton shows, cute flasher!

AnnaLynne McCord's skirt is almost invisible to the naked eye.

It's always fun when Kim Kardashian just does classic bombshell. Yes, "fun."

And...the man of the hour. Some stylist obviously crammed this saffron square into his pocket, and this stylist is obviously a Palin supporter.

Though she often wore simple housecoats with penny loafers - and usually had a Pall Mall Gold in one hand and a small glass of Scotch in the other, with an empty Hellmann's mayonnaise jar full of ice water nearby to use as a chaser - she could dress up fabulous when she wanted to. In her wedding photographs she wore a perfectly tailored navy blue coat with an off-white lining that had big, hand-painted navy blue flowers. <![CDATA[This Event? Totally Precious]]> It must be a relief for celebs to attend a screening they feel good about. Maybe that's why there was such an amazing turnout for Precious at Grauman's Chinese Theatre: Mariah, Paula, Mary J., Star, Sherri, and, yes, Oprah herself.

Gabourey Sidibe has "regal" so down.

Sidney Poitier brings the regal; his guest (daughter Sydney) brings The Belt.

Xosha Roquemore the kind of woman who can work an unadorned shape, clearly. Man alive, as gramps would say.

Woman of the hour: Sapphire.

Lisa Edelstein is ready for a garden party, should one arise. And really, you never know.

Gayle King is unquestionably elegant, but I'm just obsessed with figuring out whether she's sporting boots?

Sherri Shepherd: Party in the front, after-party in the back!

If Olivia Wilde was going for an "Uptown Girl" costume for a Billy Joel-themed party that I just made up, well, this would be really good.

It's funny how a dress like Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon's can make one more aware of the breasts than something plunging. This is not to say she doesn't look great: just musin.'

Paula Patton's style of corset, for instance, always makes me think more "engineered."

I strongly suspect that Star Jones' dress is unflattering. But I see what she was thinking and, it's true, that would have looked wonderful. And we've all been there.

How is it that Mary J. Blige can combine a distracting print and a gratuitous slash and still work one of the best looks of the night?

Speaking of! Has Mo'Nique ever looked more totally glam? (Compulsory in Hollywood when one has played a non-glam character!)

Paula Abdul goes a little job interview, a little Bowie, a tad New Wave, a bit crazy...and yet, I dig.

I'm sorry, Oprah, I think you're under-dressed!

I mean, do you see Mimi over here? Doing classic bombshell absolutely flawlessly? This is an occasion for festivity! (Thoughtful festivity.)

How Kat Kramer and her omnipresent pantyhose made it here, I don't know...but I stand in awe.

<![CDATA[Outlook Cool At 2009 Environmental Media Awards]]> The 20th Anniversary, 2009 EMA Awards, held on the backlot at Paramount Studios, attracted Calista and Ginnifer, 2 amazing looks, and one trend I think we need to call a halt to right. Now:

Could Ginnifer Goodwin be cuter? Not hardly, kids. This is what Anthropologie would surely term "Audrey Style."

Kinda digging on Kathryn Morris' belt action, but must confess to being distracted by her 'do.

Olivia Wilde is deco-fab.

Emily VanCamp: also rocking distracting hair. In her case, "rain-storm" hair.

It must be nice for Dianna Agron to get to wear normal clothes! No fireworks here, but that's certainly her prerogative.

Calista Flockhart goes curiously mother-of-the-bride. Or, you know, politician's wife, a la 'Brothers and Sisters'.

Andrea Bowen, like all of us, enjoys a dress with pockets.

Okay, Amy Smart. This trend has gone quite far enough. Go get a needle and thread. We'll wait.

<![CDATA[Powerful Glamour At Power Of Women Luncheon]]> Variety's 1st Annual Power of Women Luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel brought out plenty of dashing dames: Anne Hathaway, Christinas Aguilera and Applegate, January Jones, Jamie Lee Curtis, and...Terrence Howard?

January Jones' curious LBD borders on the "backwards" - but she looks amazing!

I'm not sure what trend in trousers Jane Lynch is demonstrating. In fact, I'm not sure it's a trend at all.

Jane Kaczmarek's palm beachy situation screams "luncheon." Take that as you will.

Maria Bello's white-suit-sandals combo is a tad "beach wedding" for my tastes, but one can't deny her insouciance.

I adore Shannyn Sossamon's Miss Mix-worthy openwork waist and skirt. And anyone who knows what I'm referring to, I officially call my sister.

Jamie Lee Curtis does simple, classic, sexy, as she does so well.

Silk charmeuse, as Wendy Davis demonstrates, is apparently the new LBD. Except that it's not basic. Or especially versatile. People just wear it constantly.

Gotta give Anne Hathaway this: when the girl's on, she's really on. Plus she can wear saffron, which is quite a trick.

I guess having said that, I need to give Sherry Lansing props for sporting an entire field of pumpkin. Well, points for...boldness, certainly. She said kindly.

Camryn Manheim's loose-fitting horizontals are not what anyone would call flattering, and are what some would call frumpy, but a natural red-carpet smile earns major points.

Christina Aguilera takes the basic out of "little black dress" even as she emphasizes the "little."

After a bizarre Emmy showing, Olivia Wilde goes safely demure.

AnnaLynne McCord rides the metallic train - and it's kinda disco-fab.

This retro-pretty day dress is an amazing look for Christina Applegate.

Seriously, what would a "Power of Women" event be without noted women's advocate Terrence Howard in a pair of clashing shoes?

Every 10 years or so, after we spend a lot of money trying to educate people — a new generation of people — and we tell them to have safe sex and to abstain sometimes but have safe sex, wear condoms, we find that after 10 years another whole group of people come along. <![CDATA[Two-Star Fashions At Fox's Winter All-Star Party]]> The Fox Winter All-Star Party, held at L.A.'s "My House," brought out a range of Fox-es, from an Abdul to an Osbourne to a Deschanel. In other words: the clothes were all over the place.

The Good:
Darn those Deschanels!

Sure Kelly Osbourne's skewing a little "Lady Sings The Blues," but 30s chic is just so pretty.

Anne Slowey might say that Kristin Chenoweth looks "like a waitress"; I think she looks cute.

This tunic is such a fun contrast to the Glinda gown Olivia Wilde whipped out for the Golden Globes.

While this hairy textile is not my cup of tea, I can't fault the shape of Mary Lynn Rajskub's simple shift.

The Bad:
Maybe without the weird breast harness, Annie Wersching's dress would have been fine.

Could the shape of Leven Rambin's number be any less flattering?

There are things about Kara Dioguardi's frock that I like, but altogether it's just too, too much.

What Say You:
Straight up: Grecian chic or Miss Mazeppa?

<![CDATA[Celebs Were Royally Messy At The Alexander McQueen Store Opening]]> Last night in Los Angeles, the stars came out for Alexander McQueen, the British designer known as an enfant terrible. In attendance: Janet Jackson, Eve, China Chow, Vidal Sassoon, Jay Manuel, Kelly Lynch and many more. Who wore Good, who wore Bad and who wore Ugly? Find out, after the jump.

The Good:

OLIVIAWILDEMCQUEEN051408.jpgOlivia Wilde played lezebel on The OC and now she's on House. I think she is super pretty and I like this sleek, city-chic outfit.

MCQUEENCHINACHOW051408.jpgChina Chow keeps it simple and showcases her shoulders. Some people just don't need lots of jewelry.

MCQUEENJACQUELINE051408.jpgRawr! Jacqueline Bisset is a stone cold fox in a leather jacket and pencil skirt.

MCQUEENJOYBRYANT051408.jpgThis column makes Joy Bryant look like a tigergoddess.

MCQUEENGOSSIP051408.jpgBeth Ditto from The Gossip! She's a performer. She's on stage. Therefore this is good. At a premiere or a quiet brunch, a red sequin jumpsuit would not be appropriate.

MCQUEENROSEAPODACA051408.jpgI don't really know who Rose Apodaca is (Google says a fashion journalist?) but I like that she's got the ovaries to rock something weird and cool that no one else is wearing.

MCQUEENEVE051408.jpgI think Eve's dress is good! Flowy, goddess-y. Let's look at it from another angle.

MCQUEENEVEDIFFVIEW051408.jpgYeah, it's good.

MCQUEENJANET051408.jpgWell you can't wear this to work at a law firm or even to a restaurant where you might have a pasta dinner, but this is Janet Jackson and this is a work of art and therefore it is good. As long as she doesn't try to light any candles.

We interrupt this post to bring you a picture of Vidal Sasson, who is 80 years old and still a handsome devil.
MCQUEENVIDAL051408.jpgYou may now return to your regularly scheduled critique.

The Bad:

MCQUEENTRACYROSS051408.jpgI'm not feeling the pattern of the dress Tracee Ross is wearing.

MCQUEENDEMORNAY051408.jpgRebecca De Mornay's tube dress and doo-doo brown pashmina seem sad.

MCQUEENIOAN051408.jpgIoan Gruffudd is ridiculously hot (did you see him in King Arthur with Clive Owen?) but this outfit rubs me the wrong way. I mean, those are jeans, right? With scuffed round-toe boots? Sigh.

MCQUEENLADYVICTORIA051408.jpgAnimal print made Joy Bryant glow; it just makes Lady Victoria Hervey look washed out.

MCQUEENCATDEELY051408.jpgCat Deely is wearing the same dress Natalie my best friend from 7th grade wore to our semi-formal in the '80s, and not in a good way.

The Ugly:

MCQUEENKELLYLYNCH051408.jpgGreen is good, but this dress is drowning Kelly Lynch.

MCQUEENJAYMANUEL051408.jpgEw. Ew. Ew. Jay Manuel. Of America's Next Top Model. How can someone who supposedly has good taste pic something so awful? Maybe cream and ivory are in his "palette" but matching your jacket and pants to your hair is just odd.

MCQUEENMAGDABERLINER051408.jpgMagda Berliner is a designer who needs a makeover.

<![CDATA[Salma Hayek Gets A Beard; Christian Bale Is A Hot Cop]]> Salma Hayek has been keeping a low profile since giving birth to her daughter, Valentina, and now she's ready to get back to work. The actress will star opposite John C. Reilly in the horror film Cirque du Freak, according to the Variety. Hayek, 41, will play a bearded lady, "Madame Truska" opposite Reilly's vampire character in the film, which is based on the 12-book children's series by writer Darren Shan. (Is a bearded lady a victim? Survey says: No.) In other casting news, actress Olivia Wilde (The O.C., House) may have finally gotten her big film break, signing on to star as Jack Black's love interest in the "biblical-era comedy" The One, directed by Harold Ramis.

Lastly, for those Jezebels who appreciate fine-looking fellows, actor Christian Bale is set to star alongside Johnny Depp in director Michael Mann's Depression-era drama Public Enemies. Bale will play a FBI agent in hot pursuit of Depp's gangster. Think of it as Heat, minus 80 years.
