@stacyinbean: I like the idea of her. Madonna in Theory, as deconstructed by Paglia & countless other academics with too much grant money on their hands, seems really cool. Madonna in Practice(post-2000 or so - early Madonna will always rule)....eh.

When a celebrity starts getting "spiritual", unnecessarily panicked about getting older, and starts wanting to seem "classy" (i.e. upper-crusty British), it's the beginning of the end.

I know some cheer her right to be as big an asshole as most men in her position are but...kind of a hollow victory, no?

@YSS: I don't see the whole "she's as big an asshole as most men in her position." She's a different kind of asshole. She's obsessed with plastic surgery and working out--how does that denote "power"? I don't see Elton John wearing leotards and working out for 3 hours a day every day. Even other women in her position aren't crazy in that way.

She seems desperate, not powerful, and I think that's my problem with her.
