I generally pretty much hate my breasts (visiting Southern France was not good for my self-esteem!), but after seeing a documentary about breasts in which the women interviewed were all topless actually did make me feel slightly better. I think it is super important for women to see more depictions of real female bodies. The women in this documentary had real breasts, surgically-enhanced breasts and there were even some trans women.

I felt so bad for the woman who's uncomfortable naked because of what a man said to her when she was undressed.

Fuck that guy! Or, don't ever. I hope he never gets any as long as he lives.

Whenever I'm uncomfortable with my body, I delve into art history, where there are images and sculptures of women that look real. And took yeeears of blood and sweat to sculpt or paint.

@Dark_Snark: my college boyfriend once told me that i had "eraser-head" nipples, and that such nipples were undesirable. of course, this guy was an extremely naive virgin, and his only reference points were Playboy and porn. (over the years i came to realize that I actually had very lovely breasts, and was even told by 3 different men that they were the most perfect they had ever seen in person.)

I ran into that college boyfriend a couple of years ago and reminded him of his comment - he remembered and was MORTIFIED and said he wishes he could go back in time and smack himself up-side the head :)

I hate my breasts, and I'm getting fake ones as soon as a I graduate college.

I know, I know, I should love myself just the way I am- but listen. I'm 6'1". I'm a size 12 (14 when I'm on my period). I have what my boyfriend refers to as "birthin' hips" and what a former coworker of mine referred to as a "ghetto white girl booty." I am BIG on bottom. On top? 38B. BARELY. When I bend over in my B-cup there's significant gapping. Strange proportions. Not to say I don't love my body, I do (most days), but some nice C's (that's all I'm asking for! no stripper tits!) would even me out, and make me feel thinner and sexier. For ME. Plus, because I do have naturally a fair amount of breast tissue, so I won't look like some Rock of Love chick with water balloons tacked to her chest.

I have thought this out. But is it weird that the doctor who'll be doing my tits is the same one who did my mom's? He did a fantastic job.

@jungbutmature: There's nothing wrong with wanting to get breast augmentation if YOU truly want it.

I feel the same way as you. I'm a 38A, huge hips, size 10-12, and a tummy. I've always been self-conscious about my breasts, since they're small. But now I'm liking them, because they're MY breasts.

All I'm saying is if you truly want it, then go for it.

I'm fine with my breasts as long as they stay in my bra. When those girls get loose, not so much.

BTW, I'm a 32DD and almost all bras in my size are for girls with fake ones which do not have the same needs as mine. If it weren't for Wacoal, I would need some kind of a cart. I also thought I was a 36C for about 20 years. As do something like 75% of bra-buying women. Get a bra fitting, ladies!

Recently I went to a Motherhood Maternity store to buy a more supportive nursing bra (I got tired of wearing old sports bras finally) and they did not have anything remotely close to my size. The saleslady finally brought me a 38D, and said "the cups are the same, so this should work." WTF? And what about the band that is way too big? What am I supposed to do about that? When I have a bra and a shirt on, I don't feel like my girls are freakishly large. The experience of not finding a bra that would even come close to fitting me AT A STORE THAT ONLY STOCKS BRAS FOR WOMEN WHO ARE BREASTFEEDING definitely made me feel bad about myself. And then I got over that and just got PISSED.

@NakedGills: There should be a normal penis site. I feel like men tend to have almost all of their body issues condensed into one small area, whereas women get to spread them out a bit. And there are significantly more guys who don't seem to care about breast size than women who don't seem to care about penis size. On the other hand, we aren't constantly bombarded by images of unnaturally large penises in the same way.

@NakedGills: I really thought the penis size thread was terrible, but you are really out of touch if you think men have it rougher when it comes to negative comments about body size/shape. Half of TMZ and Perez Hilton's posts boil down to pointing of the flaws in a woman's body. I've yet to see a website post pictures of penises for feedback (though it probably does exist). Just look at gangey's post upthread- that really isn't uncommon and lots of guys don't even think about what they say about women's bodies.

The penis size thread was out of line, but just a few days ago people were called out for nasty comments they made about Seth Rogan/Jason Segel/Jonah Hill's less than GQ bodies.

@clevernamehere: I agree that body-snarking on women is highly prevalent in our culture in a way that body-snarking on men will almost certainly never be. The point I'm trying to make is that it's just as destructive when it happens to men. I can't believe a group of women who've fought so hard to promote healthy body images and acceptance of all shapes and sizes can turn around and do the exact same thing to a different group.

Maybe I'm a little oversensitive because my partner is insecure about his body and penis size. Things always seem more important when they affect you personally.

@SylvanSylph: A good point. However, just because no one but me can see my partner's penis doesn't make him any less insecure about it. Women's bodies are certainly more "on display" and are therefore easier to comment on, which is probably one of many reasons why we get hit with body critiques much more frequently. But the aforementioned thread certainly demonstrates that even out-of-sight body parts can be readily picked on.

There are a lot of women who seem to equate sexual freedom with the ability to be incredibly vocal about the attractiveness and assets of almost every guy they see. They even do that about other women, sometimes. A female friend of my boyfriend once very loudly complimented my ass. They would undoubtedly be disgusted if a man did the same thing, but I don't really see a difference.
