Strange...but then again, exposed tattoos in Japan are liable to get you bounced from a whole bevy of places, since the prevailing thought is that tattoos are for gangsters only.

@Sugarshock: My heavily tattooed long time crush learned this the hard way. He has to keep his tattoos covered when he goes to the gym, which means long pants and long shirts. This goes for the locker room as well, so no showers unless he wants to wear a wetsuit, which they apparently suggested.

That's a bizarre policy, especially considering the majority of people under 30 seem to have tattoos. I'm probably in a very small minority in that I absolutely hate them. I think they look tacky on men, women, young and old. Tattoos were once about distinguishing yourself and now I feel like the easiest way to stand out is to not have one.

@EarlyGrey: A huge portion of Americans under 30 have tattoos, but I was under the impression that was not the case in Europe. My boyfriend's mother, who is Dutch, kept talking about how many young people in the U.S. seem to have them compared to Holland when she came to visit-- especially iin terms of having full sleeves, giant tattoos on the back, etc. I saw people with tattoos when I was in Europe, and it's getting more popular, but I don't think it's anywhere close to as common as it is in the U.S.

@EarlyGrey: Me: Under 30 - hate them too. Some people can get away with them better than others, but my personal opinion is incredibly tacky... citing 90's "tribal" tats & other random, meaningless pieces of "art". I at least have some respect for things that truly seem meaningful/beautiful.

@EarlyGrey: I hate them too; I'm also under 30 (for the next 10 months, anyway). I think half the people who claim that they're an expression of their individuality are full of poop. I had two roommates my senior year of college, who didn't know each other beforehand, and who ended up hating each other, who had both gotten the exact same tattoo when they turned 18. They hadn't even gone to the same place, and yet they'd still picked the same small tattoo to express themselves. And my cousin, whose mother died when she was 16, got a teardrop on her shoulderblade when she turned 18. She had to add a bunch of curlicues to it about 3 years later, when she got tired of people asking her if her boyfriend was in a gang.

I'm just sayin' for me, I find them unattractive. However, I will say I was raised by a mother (and grandmother) who absolutely abhor tattoos, and I'm sure I picked that up from them.

My dad went to a non-religious college in the late 1960s where women were not allowed to smoke standing up because it looked trashy. So if they were on a double date or whatever they'd sit and wait for the women to finish their cigarettes before they changed venues.
No such restriction applied to the men. It's hard to tell if that is the case here.

Later reports indicate the two women were overheard laughing about the cheap fiberboard furniture inside the nightclub. The two reportedly made mention of the fact that said furniture "is so maddeningly hard to put together" and that it "always collapses after a few months of use".

Seems fair enough to me. If night clubs can turn people away for looking too young, too old or not hip enough, why shouldn't they turn away people sporting tattoos as well?
