How bout I don't like her b/c I don't care about her and don't know anything about her except young men want to fuck her like she's the secodn coming. I haven't seen any of her movies, she hasn't done or said anything worth paying attention to. she may as well be a computer model of a hot chick for all the human she seems to be. #meganfoxhate
I don't dislike the Megan Fox I see through the media lens because I am jealous, I dislike her because she is a sexist, nasty misogynist. #meganfoxhate
Am I the only one who reads her quotes about women and, rather than thinking she's some sort of misogynist bitch snot, thinks instead "I don't know when or how, but that child got Mean Girl'd in a mortally scarring way"? #meganfoxhate
Oh, get over yourself and go call the whambulance, Megan. You know why I don't like you? Because you make it clear in every interview that you don't like women. You can only talk about other women in the context of how they're jealous of your body, your face, your talent, your acting jobs. We get it. You have what most of us will never have.
You may be beautiful, but no more so than other, far more talented actresses like, say, Kate Winslet or Anne Hathaway, neither of whom feels the need to tear other women down regularly. #meganfoxhate
This is tremendously silly, but all the "freaky" thumbs stuff bothers me. I have those thumbs. It's a recessive trait. It's not a flaw. I find it ridiculous that we're actually discussing the aesthetic beauty merits of thumbs. Good grief.
I think one of the reasons I love Jennifer's Body is actually because of Fox. Because she managed to look like this embodiment of the current male fantasy...and yet play a completely subversive character fucking with that very concept.
Sometimes I think we're so used to women self-deprecating, pleasing, and constantly trying to win us over all the time (especially when they're in the public eye) that when someone doesn't do that we're kind of shocked. Women who look like her usually go out of their way to try and come across as non-threatening.
And since I feel like being honest...I don't hate her, I actually kind of like her...and I am totally jealous of how she looks. I'll never look like that, and though I know it' s not all naturally occurring, and I know there are other things in life that matter more...there is a part of me that wonders what that' s like. Because to me it seems a bit like a gilded cage. #meganfoxhate
@tiredfairy: I wouldn't say I have a strong opinion on Fox either way, but the fact of the matter is not that she simply isn't TRYING to come across as non-threatening. I think her rhetoric about how women are jealous of her is actually very aggressive--if she wants us to like her so bad, she could at least stop talking about how much the ENTIRE GENDER sucks because we're jealous. #meganfoxhate
@kellybones: Does she actually say it's the entire gender, though? Yes, she does talk in generalities, but that has a lot to do with the questions she's asked. And the fact that she's young and probably hasn't had time to figure out more nuanced responses.
I don't agree with her statements either, but I also don't get the impression that she's actually claiming all women hate her because of jealousy. I think that might be what some people hear, but I'm not sure that's what she's saying. #meganfoxhate
I'm sure some women hate Megan Fox because she's pretty, but I see two much bigger issues.
1) She isn't girl-pretty. I watched the VMAs with a friend who is very uninterested in celebrity. She really did not get all of the remarks about how gorgeous Megan Fox is, they literally confused her. Not that she thought Megan Fox was ugly, but that she wasn't any prettier than Beyonce or Taylor Swift.
2) She says incredibly dumb stuff and shits on women. That quote up there about women tearing each other apart isn't going to win her female fans.
3) Outside of Jennifer's Body which no one saw, she's only been in dude movies where she is the sexy prop. Women tend to like actresses who play relatable female characters not fembots.
The closest comparison I can come up is Matthew McConaughey who I would guess has more female fans than male fans since he does a lot of chick flicks and is known for his chest. #meganfoxhate
Major points for prominently featuring the "toe thumb" on the cover, Ms. Fox. Workin' the "I'm flawed! So you can like me!" angle.
I think she's gorgeous--no doubt about it. In a way that I really like. But over and over, she's presented ornamentally, saying titillating but not threatening-to-the-(male)-status quo stuff. She does the mouth-half-open pose constantly. She's half-dressed.
That's okay. But once I've seen it, I'm like, "Well, hooray for you, pretty thing!"
I think in ten years, I bet she'll be making noises like Demi Moore about how there are no good roles for older women, when, in reality, if you build a career around being an ornament, you can't expect to be hired it's Show Up (with some talent) or Shut Up time, in your early 30s.
Angelina is as beautiful, but women love her, and always have. Because she's willingly presented other sides of herself besides, well, herself and her thoughts about herself and what other people think of her. She showed range and skill in her acting; she showed some self-awareness that wasn't self-obsession in her interviews.
In short, she presented herself as more than just a One Pout Pony, and chicks dig it! #meganfoxhate
@LilyBonesBurana: Early on in her career women weren't such big fans of angelina, she got made fun of constantly for being "weird" and women seemed pretty put off by her constantly mentioning her bisexuality in interviews, i think because they saw it as her pandering to a male fantasy. It wasn't until she started dressing more sophisticated and adopting children that women really embraced her. Megan is still young, and she hasn't really been given any projects that honestly let us see if she can act or not. Seen any of the Star Wars prequels? Judging by the shitty dialogue she was given in those movies I would have said Natalie Portman was a terrible actress, it's kind of hard to judge someone's talent when the character and script they are working with have no real depth. I like Megan, she is beautiful and seems to recognize that her looks are what have gotten her where she is so far. As for her stupid quotes, for one I think it's refreshing just to see someone actually being honest in Hollywood. She's speaking her mind, knowing full well that a lot of people, especially women aren't going to like what she has to say, and I find that refreshing. And a lot of what she says about women tearing each other apart is sad, yet many times true. I don't think it's an inbred female characteristic, but we live in a male dominated world, and I think there are many times instead of building each other up women end up trampling each other while trying to get ahead, it's kind of culturally conditioned in girls. There is a catty jealousy that happens with girls that you just don't ever really see with men. Just look at this board, would you ever see a men's message board filled with heated comments about how much they dislike some random male celebrity that is more popular with women? #meganfoxhate
@cassie803: Great post! I do think that men are harsh on celebrity men who are popular with women. But they dismiss these men for other reasons--they're feminized, attacked for taking non-manly roles or singing gooey material etc. In other words, these men have failed to be Clint Eastwood.
But that doesn't tie into a beloved, titillating cultural trope, like the alleged "cattiness" behind any objection to Megan Fox, so it's not as much of a pot-stirrer. Bitchfights are sexier than sissy-baiting, I guess.
I'm not sure I buy that women are catty toward Fox because of jealousy or reflexively stepping on someone else to get ahead. She has any number of equally sexed-up peers who don't bring out the bitchy, and also attract female dollars/viewers despite any shitstorm around being sexy sexypants.
Portman =/ Fox. But yes, I did see one of the Star Wars with Portman. I recall her having to say something like, "Anikin! You're so distant. You have to *let me in!*" Haw haw! You're right about it being hard to deliver such wooden dialog. But there's some equally bad hipster-damaged dialog that certain actresses (Fox's peers) delivered flawlessly.
Fox's interview commentary is occasionally refreshing--she's not totally groomed, which is nice. (I never thought she was, FYI) But the constant reference to the reasons why other women don't like her seems tone-deaf and self-referential in a way that does her no favors. There's only so much rope you can get from "I'm too pretty"/"other women don't like me" before you hang. The immediate response that engenders is evident in this very thread: "Wellllll, actually, it's not that, it's......(insert other stuff here)"
Point taken about vintage Jolie--I'd forgotten about the Billy Bob/blood wearing years (admittedly, I wasn't paying attention as much then, plus I liked the vampire stuff, and I thought everyone else needed to F-Off about it!). The kids did change her image, and the way she was written up. A lot. But I do recall her first coming on the scene, and aside from people remarking on her beauty, they also remarked on her talent. Then she did go through that stage people found off-putting, then motherhood "redeemed" her in the public eye--which is pretty telling in and of itself, right? In fact, if memory serves, her becoming mom was an immediate precursor to the Hollywood "bump watch" trend. Yeeps.
I'm not saying Fox "asks for it," as far as any hostility toward her. But I can see why she's not a #1 hit with the la-deez, and I don't think think envy is the sum total of it. Or even all that much of it. #meganfoxhate
Has anyone ever seen her with her mouth closed? Yeah. I thought not. Perpetual "sexay time face" - as well as women who constantly speak in a sultry manner get on other women's nerves because you're obviously not talking to US. Keep playing to half the crowd and that's all you win over. #meganfoxhate
Maybe if Megan didn't harp on about how all girls are bitches and jealous of her, more of them would like her. Also, humility is one thing - whining is another. If she hadn't done so many men's magazines etc then she sure as hell wouldn't be even half as famous as she is today. #meganfoxhate
One of the reasons I don't particularly like Megan Fox is that she keeps telling me that I don't like her due to her rather sweeping generalisations about women.
The world is constantly telling me what I should think about everything else. It would be nice if movie stars would refrain and just get on with entertaining me.
Famous Persons: Get on with entertaining us unless you have something meaningful to say, and stfu in the meantime. And if you, Famous People, do not and won't stfu, then please don't expect us to not have a little guffaw at your expense. #meganfoxhate
Well, I have been giving her the benefit of the doubt, but, echoing what others here have already said, claiming other women don't like you because they are jealous is probably the quickest way to ensure that other women don't like you.
