I'm not kidding, people. Every time I see those magazine covers, I think about the fact that I live in a city, a glorious city, in which a high percentage of the menfolk do not want women to look like skeletons. You may be able to guess that I'm well-endowed in that area myself, though I'm white, so I have had to feel bad about it.
You know, I'm fine with men desiring women. I'm fine with men being horny, and occasionally shallow. Sometimes I'm horny and shallow too. The thing I hate about porn is that all the women look the same -- blond, skinny, and huge-breasted -- not that it's about physical desire. (Ok, I hate the cum shots too.) And I think it's frankly pretty great if different kinds of women can be portrayed as desirable in a horny, shallow way. Women of different races, of different ages, and of different ass sizes.
It's one thing to say to men, "look beyond our physical imperfections and love us anyway," and another, more radical thing, to say, "those weren't imperfections at all! desire me because of them."
Now, excuse me while I go buy one of these magazines for a Spanish friend of mine...

Anyone who wants porn can (and should be able to) easily access it, but I don't see why that means everyone has to be exposed to it at a neutral, everyday place like the corner newstand. It's entirely reasonable that people who don't want to see pornographic images are irritated by the fact that they can't avoid them whether they want to or not.

Seriously, I really hate when people complain about something that is classic New York. Like graffiti or clubs that stay open all night or people fucking on park benches. Bring back Babylon, I say.

I don't understand why we are SO freaking uptight about nudity and sex. IT'S JUST SEX. Guess what, if your kid wants to see porn they will find a way. I remember watching the scrambled playboy channel when I was 10 and thinking it was the SHIT!

Also my partner is German, I've lived in Germany and plenty of Germans are not into this either.

However, Germany and other European countries have a much more lackadaisical attitude towards sex, nudity and porn. I can't speak for every German, but I do know that where I lived (Stuttgart) public access channels played soft core porn at night and it was not unusual at all to see pornographic magazines at eye level (for a child) in gas stations/book stores/airports etc. They would not slap a sticker over some girls semi naked ass (IMHO)

There are near pornographic ads in Times Square why not get all uppity about those?

The newsstand around the corner from my old UES apartment was one of them! Meh.

ANd why is only the magazines with people of color? Why not have a problem with Maxim and FHM?
This is all very "will someone please think of the children!"

What I'm trying to say is, I agree with you, just adding a personal anecdote :)

The ones I see that really make me go "WHAAAH" are the juicy booty mags where the girl is often squatting, back to the camera, with a tiny little thread of a "thong" running up her back. Essentially it is a naked woman. I don't fancy myself a prude (OK, I kind of am) but when I saw one just like that two days ago I was fuming.

So until this woman starts going after advertisements everywhere and Maxim and magazines of it's ilk, I'm calling shenanigans.
Keep you large behinds covered, black girls! White cheesecake models, keep doing your thing!

Maybe they should be treated like the Playboys and given the shrink-wrap treatment/cover the offending bits treatment. But prolly not with a cig ad.
