    But still not as bad as that commercial where the girls were practically queefing over mini-burgers. That one really chapped my hide.

    It's not meant to be sexy, or cougarish, it's meant to be absurd. Hell, I thought it was funny -- the candies are making their mouths pucker, the mom's nodding because she likes it, and then when the son walks in all he sees is eye contact and pursed lips. And he's horrified by it on every single level, obviously. There's no actual sexual vibe in the room. The audience is "people who like intense candy that makes your mouth pucker involuntarily".

    I'm a fan of the Brinks Home Security takedowns, but think you're barking up the wrong tree on this one. #hallsrefreshad

    But they're not really sexy for each other anyway the halls are so juicy it makes them look like they're making sexy faces. And I think it's more ridiculous that this "cougary" commercial raises the ire when half naked women throw themselves at men wearing Axe on m TV daily. #hallsrefreshad

    As a cougarish MILF, I am appalled that an advertisement targeting my demographic is being called out for being too racy. There is a glut of commercials targeted for the frat mentality with half-naked girls eating hamburgers seductively suggesting a range of all sorts of bodily functions, whether these women are washing their hair or drinking a beverage.

    This is ridiculous. If you're going to start censoring commercials for being perverse, than it should be all or nothing!

    Halls are "surprisingly mouth-watering" so it's not even false advertisement.

    I almost sent in a tip regarding this ad specifically - mostly because I found it offensive because it was supposed to be farfetched.

    And then I told myself to lighten up. But I do agree, I wish we'd stop with the double standard. If it's distasteful when an old man dates a young girl then the opposite should be true (not titillating). #hallsrefreshad

    @sybann: The first time I saw the ad I actually thought it was cool they used normal-looking people, as it made it more believable and thus, more absurd. The situation would be far-fetched no matter what they looked like. #hallsrefreshad

    My name is thesciencegirl, and I am a nerd of color. It's interesting... the ways in which being a nerd in communities of color can be alienating, and the ways in which being a person of color can be alienating in communities of nerds.

    I have heard many POCs in the scifi world lament the opposition to moving away from the prototype of the white male as protagonist observing the alien other. Google RaceFail for blog post upon blog post of discussion on that very topic. #edwidgedanticat

    @thesciencegirl: Yeah, it's a double-whammy. And what's incredible is not just the opposition to anything but generic McEurope, but the constant claims that we can't have anything but Tolkein rip-offs and Asimov!light because there's no market for it. Because, you see, there is no such thing as a non-white, non-male nerd. Which--WHAT? It must be amazing to be able to completely ignore everyone that doesn't fit with your preconcieved notions of reality. #edwidgedanticat

    I would feel remiss if I didn't mention that Danticat's Brother, I'm Dying is absolutely amazing. Easily one of the best books I've read in years. I highly recommend it, as if her excerpt above doesn't already speak volumes.
