At least this one isn't claiming it's a feminist act.

Alina, who moved from Romania to Germany with a cousin two months ago, initially said that she wanted the money for college. Except then it turns out she never graduated from high school due, I'm sure in no small part, to the willingness of some of her former teachers to give interviews that she's a slut who has slept around a lot. So now she's got a new plan.

"My family is very poor," she said.

"I had to finish school at 17 because I couldn't afford to stay there. My father is a street repair man and my mother doesn't work and I have a 16-year-old sister, and brothers aged six and 12 who are still at school.

"I will use the money to go back to Romania, where it will help support my family.

"I will finish school and then go to university so I can get a job working for the police, in the commissioner's office. I want to get a good job so my sister and brothers will be able to finish school."

She got the idea from Feminist Auctioneer Natalie Dylan, and thought it was just fantastic and even though she says she doesn't care about losing her virginity to a man that would pay for sex, she's horribly offended that anyone would suggest she's not a virgin. So she got yet another gynecological exam to prove that she's a virgin, and the German auctioneer has reinstated her auction.

She's got a plan for how this is all going to go, by the way. She thinks she might fall in love, which is, I'm sure, what every man willing to pay $75,000 to fuck a virgin wants to hear.

"I'd like us to go away to a hotel for a weekend and to meet up and talk first, so I feel comfortable with him before we go to a room together."

Romantic Alina added hopefully: "I will see how we get along. But if we like each other, perhaps we will continue to see each other after the first night."

She doesn't say whether that will be before or after she returns to Romania with her cash money for her family, though. Actually, reading her thoughts on her virginity auction, I'm starting to have a grudging respect for Natalie Dylan, who at least makes no bones about the fact that she just doesn't give a shit.

And if you weren't convinced that this girl should get a little bit more educated before auctioning off her virginity, here's the kicker.

Shockingly the teen says she is even prepared to have sex without condoms if the winning bidder prefers not to use them.

She said: "If the man does not want to use preservatives, then I'm prepared to do it without them. But he must provide a full medical certificate to prove he is free from all STDs.

"If I have sex without a condom I will take the morning after pill afterwards, as I do not want to become pregnant."

Because, of course, a medical certificate means he didn't catch one last night, or last week, and you can definitely feel safe with the type of man that will pay $75,000 to fuck a really eager and not particularly well-educated virgin. And the morning after pill, well, that's total "preparation" to do without condoms. Good plan!

In any case, I'm sure there's nothing hinky whatsoever about a poor family sending their 18-year-old daughter, virgin or not, to Germany with a cousin and her husband for "work" where she randomly "decides" to auction off said virginity for the sake of helping all her relatives back home. Nope. Doesn't smell like sex trafficking at all.

<![CDATA[Natalie Dylan Continues To Believe Virginity Auction Is New Feminist Act]]> Natalie Dylan, the pseudonymous woman who is auctioning off her virginity at the Moonlight Bunny Ranch, has a piece in the Daily Beast today explaining herself (again) from a "feminist" perspective.

Dylan would like the world to know that even though she's auctioning off her virginity to the man who gives her the money she thinks her maidenhead deserves disregarding, of course, the possibility that there is no guy worth sleeping with who would actually give a woman money to take her virginity she's not stupid.

I’m a 22-year-old woman who recently earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Women’s Studies, and soon I’ll be entering a Masters Degree program in Marriage and Family Therapy. During the time in between, in addition to my regular 9-to-5, I’ve been exploring my upcoming thesis project: the value of virginity.

Oh, well, if it's a school project... Please insert your own "Therapist, heal thyself" joke here.

Anyway, it was her education in women's studies that led her to determine that selling her body was the best way to self-determination for her.

At the university level, I was given permission to think differently and form a moral code of my own design. College opened my eyes.

Sounds like someone took a couple of philosophy classes, too, and paid really close attention when moral relativism was described (but not critiqued).

But college taught me that this concept is just a tool to keep the status quo intact. Deflowering is historically oppressive—early European marriages began with a dowry, in which a father would sell his virginal daughter to the man whose family could offer the most agricultural wealth. Dads were basically their daughters’ pimps.

When I learned this, it became apparent to me that idealized virginity is just a tool to keep women in their place. But then I realized something else: if virginity is considered that valuable, what’s to stop me from benefiting from that? It is mine, after all.

Ok, actually, lots of women are still traded in the world like chattel, and virginity remains fetishized throughout the world. And owning and selling one's own isn't a feminist statement, though it is a capitalist one, which she recognizes.

I took the ancient notion that a woman’s virginity is priceless and used it as a vehicle for capitalism.

A introspective moment! That introspection, though, lasts for all of a line break.

Are you rolling your eyes? I knew this experiment would bring me condemnation. But I'm not saying every forward-thinking person has to agree with what I’m doing. You should develop your own personal belief system—that’s exactly my point! For me, valuing virginity as sacred is simply not a concept I could embrace. But valuing virginity monetarily—now that’s a concept I could definitely get behind. I no longer view the selling of sex as wrong or immoral—my time at college showed me that I had too blindly accepted such arbitrary norms.

Um, so, basically, she's a women's studies major who ,rather than acknowledging, studying and working to end patriarchal systems, has decided her brand new value system works best when she accepts all the patriarchal norms and uses them to make money while valuing her own body only in terms of what its labor, so to speak, can provide to a male.

Ms. Dylan, however, recognizes that there are some problems with what she's doing:

These days, more and more women my age are profiting directly from their sex appeal, but I’m not sure other women should follow my lead. One conclusion my experiment has already borne out is that society isn’t ready for public auctions like mine—yet.

Actually, I don't think it's that we're not ready. It's that it's nothing new, and never has been and pretty much every other women's studies major in the country can't believe she passed her classes if she thinks this is feminism.

<![CDATA[Radio Host Laura Ingraham Tries, Fails To Rattle Virgin Natalie Dylan]]> Yesterday, conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham tried hard to get Natalie Dylan to feel bad about auctioning her virginity. Ms. Dylan made Ms. Ingraham look dumb and made us feel a little dirty.

Ingraham kicked things off with a little plug for her book, then encouraged Dylan to think about "eternity" and "the legacy you're gonna leave behind." When that didn't work, she tried to make Dylan feel guilty about treating her body like "a commodity." Ingraham asked, "you don't think God helped create the human form and that God has a special plan for you?" And Dylan responded, "we all use our bodies for work."

Ingraham then accused Dylan of being lazy, asking "do you ever plan on getting a real job?" She plowed right on through with the laziness argument, even though Dylan said she currently has two jobs. When she asked what would happen if a bunch of people got together and paid Dylan to stay a virgin, Dylan said, "there's so many more places people should donate their money."

Perhaps the most telling segment of the show, however, was when Dylan's MySpace friend Raquel called in to offer her support. Raquel talked about her sex change, then asked why Ingraham was spending time harping on Dylan when she should be asking Alan Greenspan "where the $531 trillion worth of derivatives went." Ingraham first insisted on referring to Raquel by her birth name of Bruce, and then told her that "there are some things more important than money." To which Dylan responded, "virginity's not one of them to me."

The truth is, Alan Greenspan's choices are more important to Americans than Natalie Dylan's, and Ingraham didn't have Dylan on the show because she cares about morality. She cares about ratings, and Dylan's media ubiquity (today's Daily News has her girl-crushing on Kim Kardashian) demonstrates that ratings are something she can provide. Dylan's very smart, and she seems to have better values than her interviewer (even conservative blog Hot Air mocks Ingraham, calling the interview "just 15 minutes of Ingraham trying to shame this woman into regret. And failing utterly.") But Dylan also comes off as extremely mercenary. Ingraham speculates that she won't actually go through with the virginity sale, and that she'll instead use her newfound notoriety to make money on books and TV appearances. This seems likely. Dylan looks poised to become more fame-whore than real whore a path unfortunately not open to the many, many prostitutes in the world with fewer resources than her.

What Do You Wish You Knew Before You Lost Your Virginity?

<![CDATA[What Do You Wish You Knew Before You Lost Your Virginity?]]> The auction price for 22-year-old Natalie Dylan's virginity is up to 2.5 million pounds (about $3.6 million), but the Times of London has ten tips for her to remember when she does give it up.

"Ten things to know before losing your virginity" contains some good advice, like "If you don't feel comfortable discussing protection and contraception with your partner, you should not be having sex," and "While not perfect, condoms are the most effective way of preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia and trichomoniasis." But then there's this:

A recent study of sexual attitudes among 14 to 16-year-olds, carried out by researchers from Sheffield University, found that teenage boys thought it was acceptable to pressure girls into having sex and to use alcohol to get them into bed.

And this:

No surprise then that girls are twice as likely as young men to regret their first sexual experience, and they are three times as likely to report being pressured into unwanted sex.

Factoids like these are more scare tactic than tip. If you know and trust your partner and understand what you want you don't need a research study to tell you whether to have sex. On the other hand, we all have a few things about sex we wish we knew the first time. What are yours?

<![CDATA[Tyra: Woman Auctioning Off Her Virginity Says It Is A Feminist Act]]> Natalie Dylan, the 22-year-old woman auctioning off her virginity through the Moonlight Bunny Ranch brothel in Nevada, was on Tyra today. (She's had 5,000 bidders, with the highest bid so far being $3.8 million.) Automatically, when reading the headlines about Natalie, the initial reaction would be that she's in it for the money, or that she's just a liar out to get some attention. This speaks volumes about the way our society thinks about women's sexuality, and that's exactly why Natalie has chosen to go on this journey. She's a feminist, working on her master's thesis on the dichotomous nature between virginity and prostitution. So does this make Natalie the first official virgin/whore? She explains her experiment in the clip above, and answers Tyra's stupid questions after the jump.

<![CDATA[Area Woman "Empowered" By Auctioning Her Virginity]]> As we mentioned briefly on Monday, there's a 22-year-old woman named Natalie Dylan who is auctioning her virginity in order to pay for college and grad school! But you guys, she just wants to become a marriage counselor! And she's doing it for another noble reason: "I think empowerment to women is picking yourself up in order to better yourself," Natalie says. She's auctioning her lady flower through the Bunny Ranch brothel in Nevada. Why does this remind me of that Onion article, Women Now Empowered By Everything A Woman Does?

"Whereas early feminists campaigned tirelessly for improved health care and safe, legal access to abortion, often against a backdrop of public indifference or hostility, today's feminist asserts control over her biological destiny by wearing a baby-doll T-shirt with the word "Hoochie" spelled in glitter," the Onion notes. SIGH.
