Ok, I'm getting a little tired of this. Why wouldn't his image still be there? He hasn't lost his record deal, he hasn't been tried by anyone other than a bunch of people speculating and trying to sell magazines. The boy did something awful and needs to be punished, but he has a right to go through the justice system like any other accused criminal. He is being made out to be some big beast. You notice how he is often referred to as a "Hip-Hop star" in coverage of the case? One media outlet even called him a "gangster rapper"! That is not on accident.
While a woman cannot "provoke" a man to hit her with words, if she hit him first (which my "inside" sources as well as some of the media stories) say, she started the fucking fight. Word is she has been consistently violent to him during the relationship. They both need to be punished and send to therapy to deal with their indvidual issues (not couples therapy!), because they are both young and in trouble. And what about the long standing allegations about his manager being the woman who sent the naughty text? Who's allegedly been sleeping with him since he was 16 and she, 37? Is that alleged stautory rape not worth discussing?

Fact is, being of a pretty high set in school myself, I was a bit of a geed, and my musical tastes were influenced in exactly the same ways as every other teenager I knew.
Generally (though there are plenty of exceptions) teenagers move in packs, and packs share both an intelligence level and a fostering of a sense of belonging. If you're hanging round with all the rest of the smart kids, you're going to share music, and you're going to want to have things in common other than your maths test score. So if my super-brainy mate informs me that X band are the shit, at 14 I'm going to make an effort to like that band or similar. If some kid who isn't doing that well at school gets told not to listen to band X because it's for geeks and it's well not cool, what do you reckon most of them will do?

The sociology student in me cringes at that study because of exactly what you mentioned. There are so many other factors to take into account when considering WHY someone wants to listen to Lil Wayne over U2, and concluding that intelligence is what determines your music style is a stretch. I just wonder why the study hasn't been ripped apart yet, it looks like an undergrad methods class research question turned grad school study.

I was just thinking exactly the same thing... are these low scoring student research studies, or what? The sheer volume of "research" that comes out with appallingly short sighted results in all fields at the moment makes me almost certain it must be students. No grant funded professional could come up with this useless crap, could they? God I hope not.

Also, the researcher's first name is Virgil. And he said something along the lines of "...I used to hear this music, and think "How stupid do you have to be to listen to this stuff?" and this study proves just that!" [obviously I am paraphrasing like a mofo here but my point is that he had a very definite bias.]
