    Ah man- this hits home for me..
    Oy...the years of singing "Mr. Sandman" in Girl's Chorale and musical revues all through high school! Our director was OBSESSED with the Chordettes and thought The Andrews Sisters were trampy and kitschy. (This was in the 80's mind you!)
    I still sing Mr. Sandman to my kid- but it is wearing thin on him, too.

    It's oddly poetic that her throat produced her beautiful voice but also was the thing that ended her life.

    Thanks for this, Hortense. Although I don't want to go back to women being relegated to just "girl groups" all the time, I am hopelessly nostalgic for this kind of music. Le sigh.

    A 1960s Spector type girl group, but updated for the modern grrls! Think the Chordettes plus Le Tigre.
