    I am sorry, but these guys seem like they came straight from Central Casting for NJ/SI stereotypes. Although, I am not from the East Coast, so what do I know. These seem like broad "characters" to me, though I am sure such people must exist. #mtvjerseyshore

    What is up with the media industry portraying NJ as the "guido" (for lack of a better word- maybe douchebag would be more apropos) capital of the world? It seems like ever since The Sopranos, its been this never ending train of this horrible stereotype. Take a look at Real Housewives of NJ (which I staunchly refuse to watch), the other Summer Share one-shots on MTV's True Life, and even Cake Boss.

    My Irish videogame nerd self feels horribly out of place living here and looking at what the "norm" is being shown as on TV. #mtvjerseyshore

    @Binya-Binya: Though all guidos are considered douches, not all douches are guidos. It's a square and rectangle sort of situation. Obvs not everyone from/in NJ is a guido/guidette, but they do exist, and it's pretty incredible to see in real life. (I went to college in NJ) I dont think you can be considered a guido unless you are from NJ or Staten Island or otherwise in close promixity to that area. Accent helps too. All the rest of the over muscled, over tanned, over gelled douches in the world are simply just plain old douches.

    This isn't new, unless the "new" aspect is picking out the housemates. They had a whole show like this already, called, if I'm not mistaken, True Life: Jersey Shore or some such. But it was a full season, not a regular TL episode.

    @BytheSea: sorry - its what the locals call the tourists. stems from the trainstops. Bayonne Elizabeth Newark New York. BGH (Benny's go home) is a big mantra for locals in the summer. However I worked at a restaurant by the ocean ever summer of college so I'm quite thankful for the benny's and use the term quite affectionately. #mtvjerseyshore

    So, they're making a show with more tacky/gaudy people in it. Where the hell do they get these people? Also, "guidos?" Why would anyone want to present themselves as low-class and garish (which is what that word means with added ethnic elements, Italian to be exact)? Wasn't the word once a slur against Italians?
