I love Meryl and Julia enough that I will happily see this (probably stoned).

I used to watch Julia Child's cooking show every Saturday and Sunday morning on PBS. It was followed by Yan Can Cook. Those are still my two favorite cooking shows of all time.

The preview is incredible.

I'm hoping that out of one phenomenal book (My Life in France) and one crappy one (Juli & Julia), they've managed to pull one strong movie.

So not my usual type of movie, but I love Julia, Meryl and Amy so I kind of am excited.

I have been trying to think of clever blog- to- movie ideas: Gofugyourself would be an excellent excuse for a shopping/makeover montage...Craigslist could reveal the life story of Craig himself...

@Blueberrypie: "Missed Connections" would probably make for some good viewing. "Casual Encounters", on the other hand, would probably be more of a straight-to-the-back room-of-the-video store- thing, if you know what I'm sayin.

I was hoping this movie was more about Julia Child herself, but it looks amazing. I would be terribly disappointed if it were bad. I have often contemplated dropping everything to go to cooking school- and Julia Child is my icon. I especially loved her way of picking things up off the floor when she dropped them. Including a whole turkey once.

I was really excited to watch the preview until about halfway through when I realized that since I'm on a liquid fast until tomorrow night, this was just about the worst thing for me to be viewing. Too.Much.Food.

But the movie looks good!

This movie looks really interesting and funny. Also, I love Stanley Tucci.

Finally, Meryl Streep is one of the few A-list actresses who can really slip into a role and make you forget that you're watching Meryl Streep. For example, when I watch Angelina Jolie I can't get past the fact that it's Jolie playing the role. With Streep I can suspend my belief for a few hours, which is, I suppose, one of the reasons why she's such an unparalleled actress.

I was just considering getting this book, but several reviews on Amazon said it was mostly about Julie's job problems and drinking. That doesn't interest me.

Were the Amazon reviewers right or wrong?

@clevernamehere: My sis is a huge Julia Child fan (as am I), and she was not a fan of Julie's blog (though she hasn't read the book). Her comments echoed those of the Amazon reviewers, but I just checked out the book from the library out of curiosity. They might change it a lot in the movie, anyway.

@schweppes: I checked this one out, too. I suspect I will like it better...

@Majrhoulihan: Actually, for no good reason, I always pictured Julie as Deb from "Smitten Kitchen."

This may be why I found her endearing - because I love Deb.

@clevernamehere: My Life in France is such a good read.

Julie & Julia not so much. I think the trailer to this movie looks adorable and it seems like it's about finding yourself and your purpose. However, I found the book to be about a very whiney boring woman who hated her job. Couldn't stand the book.

@clevernamehere: Yes there was angst about her job. But there was a ton of discussion about food prep and Julie's descriptions are mouthwatering. I found her to be an engaging and amusing writer who I could relate to. I kind of want to be her after reading J+J. But I suppose it depends on what your taste is in books.

@Majrhoulihan: YESSS!!! Omg, one of my friends just turned me on to that blog recently, and she is fantastic (and preggers--yay!). I didn't know of Deb's existence when I read J&J, or I would have certainly pictured her, too.
