    This is absolutely the best piece of insight on the industry, hands down. Having just started my own modeling stint after graduating university and heading into my second show season this fall, you are able to sum into words what I sometime cannot bear to believe/experience/witness, etc. etc...

    Thank you for delving into and identifying some of the issues (of the industry as a whole) that few people ever know about.

    Congrats! Beautiful portfolio, and poignant post. Sheds a lot of light on the industry. I've been reading your writing for some time, and I think it resonates with a lot of people who are pursuing entertainment as well as fashion - similar issues. You point out a lot of things people don't really address. GREAT work. Unique vantage point, and really gets to the heart of some interesting issues.

    Congratulations Jenna! You are one of the best writers on any Gawker site, and I always hoped you would become a more regular contributor.


    But also, congratulations Anna. Giving Jenna the room to shine was an excellent decision. You have taken Jezebel in some very interesting directions recently, and I hope you continue along these lines.

    That last paragraph is absolutely brilliant and think it's advice every woman should take, whether modeling, acting, in relationships or in everyday life. Someone will always be able to find a flaw in you, and there will always be someone looking for exactly who you are.

    Jenna, you are a beautiful writer. I love the poignancy of cutting your hair as a final declaration of freedom. Having been in theater and constrained to the image of the play (aka not allowed to cut my hair!) for months I can image what it might be like to be out of control of your own image for years.
