@ronniedobbs: You're missing out it's actually a really good show. She states that her purpose for the show was to spotlight entertainers of color who don't get invited to go on The View, Good Morning America, Larry King Live, and other such shows to promote the work that they are doing in the field, and for that reason alone I tune in.
It's nice to see that Posh is bringing attention to areas like rural Kentucky, which has some of the worst poverty in the country, but isn't considered a "trendy poor" among celebrity activists. The people in these areas really are trapped in a cycle of education-based poverty. #victoriabeckham
I'd ditch Strictly Come Dancing for X-Factor, too. I mean, SCD does not have JEDWARD, the most amazing thing to hit the airwaves since Sanjaya. (Only Jedward are actually entertaining.) #victoriabeckham
@likepenguins: How awesome was 'Under Pressure'? I was like, I bet you anything they'll do Vanilla Ice, and then they did! I know they basically herald the end of civilisation as we know it, but damn they're funny. Their rendition of 'Oops I Did It Again' that first week was the funniest thing I have seen on television in years. I was sobbing with laughter! #victoriabeckham
@rah29: I just want to learn how to get my hair up to that height. It's like, the taller their hair is, the easier it is for them to reach Jesus. God bless those little freaks.
(And, actually, were they sort of, kind of, almost . . . in tune this week? ZOMG APOCALYPSE.) #victoriabeckham
@likepenguins: My boyfriend... I can't believe I'm admitting this... voted for them. He likes to think he's being ironic and subversive, but then again this is a man with an inexplicable love for novelty singles. Sometimes I wonder about him. #victoriabeckham
I was a chauffeur during the summer in college for an outdoor music venue, and Aretha was one of the performers. She was always notoriously picky about how things went down, from asking only for male drivers (she just felt "safer") to requesting half her payment in cash before going on stage, even putting some of it in her bra. Air conditioning was also verboten. I later learned that she demands the air conditioning be turned off b/c poisonous gas was pumped into the air system of a venue during one her shows in the 70's, and she's be terrified of a repeat ever since. Knowing these things (as well as story from my pilot/flight attendant parents about Aretha in first class with a gentleman friend in the 70's), seals it for me. Aretha was/is crazy/awesome. #victoriabeckham
@JJHuggnstuff: I've heard that a lot of performers of her generation demand the cash thing too, because so many of them just got cheated out of their money and are afraid of that happening. #victoriabeckham
@JJHuggnstuff: I'm all for giving Aretha her due, but the way I read the link, she wants the air conditioning turned off to the whole arena while she's in it and I've been to enough uncomfortable concerts to know that's probably not the best idea.
Still, Jann could just block her vents and said it was off, it's not like she'd know the difference.
I clicked the link to the VB article and was pleasantly surprised. Those photos with the kids with Beckham were really lovely. I want very much to be cynical and say that she was merely doing this for some good publicity, but I don't think that is the case. As far as photo ops and charity work go, there are far more glamourous causes these days (hence why every damn celebrity/socialite shills for Operation Smile), and more exotic places to go that Clay County, Kentucky. Her smile seemed really genuine, and even if she was playing it up for the cameras, I highly doubt that those kids were. #victoriabeckham
@Tchotchke: I really liked the last one where you can barely see her. I think a lot of celebs would have insisted on sitting at the front of that big crowd of kids rather than being jammed way in at the back.
But as I said in another thread I am an unabashed VB apologist! #victoriabeckham
Is "I hate doing school scenes and office scenes" the hollywood equivalent of "I never want to have a desk job?" Are offices so terrible that even pretending to work in one is miserable? #victoriabeckham
@NellMood: But how many films are set in offices? Lots! And how many films show life on a film set? Not many. Secretly, movie stars desperately want to be just like us, working in offices, complaining about air conditioning and eavesdropping on conversations in the next cubicle. #victoriabeckham
@heykoukla: Do you think celebrities secretly gaze at office workers coming out of starbucks with lattes and think "They drink coffee! Real people are just like us!"? #victoriabeckham
@NellMood: For sure - why else do you think we always see them holding Starbucks coffees? They're pretending they're on their lunch break. #victoriabeckham
@heykoukla: I wonder if there are secret magazines ("Regular." "Them.") just for celebrities full of accountants and dentists driving Hondas and picking up their own dry-cleaning. #victoriabeckham
Geez Ethan, in a world with TMZ and paparazzi who jump in front of cars and call celebs whores to get a reaction, you think Gawker Stalker is a problem? #victoriabeckham
